Default Official M5 engine specs

Redline at 8.250 rpm
Maximum output 507 hp (373 kW) at 7.750 rpm
Peak torque 520 Nm at 6100 rpm
450 Nm available from 3.500 rpm
80% of maximum torque is available at up to 5.500 rpm

Engine weight is 240 kg, which is about the same the old V8 was.

Engine has "semi-dry sump oil system" which incorporates two oil sumps: a smaller one in front of the crossmember and bigger one behind.

The third generation SMG system is claimed to be 20% faster than SMG II

also a new engine:
630Ci will have a new VALVETRONIC 3 litre inline six engine, with max output of 190kW(258bhp) and 300Nm.

hmmm accumulating posts I think ?
Anyway, the engine looks fine to me, but the real stunner is the SMG III thing, SMG II was already super fast when in its most aggressive program.... 80 milliseconds was the figure I guess, how can you get a shift in 60 milliseconds now with SMG III :roll:

I think its incredible to see the developments between each generation of engines that M Division come out with. The new engine weighs approximately the same as the old one, but with 2 more cyclinders and 100hp more, not to mention a saloon with an 8000 rpm+ redline. That's phenominal and full credit to the engineers

LOL@ how AMG and Audi need to resort to Superchargers and Compressors to keep up with Bmw. These specs are truely impressive...

Lotus GT1..... quite true...

but remmber the merc has only 3 valves per cylinder 24 valves in total and has a v8 (not a 40 valve v10)
