Default How come no one is buying the GTO?

???

I think it is a great car. Saw one on the Freeway the other day and I thought it looks great. The guy punched it after I caught up, and it sounded great too.

All the reviews I have read/saw loves that car. (I have never driven one myself.) But it seems great.

So how come no one is buying one?

Is it because it is a Holden? Or is it because it has the Pontiac?

No one is buying it because the real GTO has been off the market for many years. A rebadged Monaro just isn't going to cut it. All you really have is a good motor in a bland car. I'm sure if they were closer to 25k OTD it would sell a bit better.

Apparently you Yanks thought that the styling of the original was too blande, hence the scoops on it now. Anyway, if you don't buy one soon you won't get the opportunity.

That's exactly what many people think (me, for example), too bland. When I first pointed out the new GTO to a few friends they were looking around frantically only to find out that I was pointing at the weird looking Grand Prix. Like said before, "good motor in a bland car."

IMO, they ruined the clean design of the "GTO" with the scoops Now it's just ugly...

What Pontiac needs is the coupe version of the Solstice... and banning of front lic plates across North America

Personally i think that sale numbers had less to do with looks and more to do with price point. It was way too high comparatively. For the money you could get a really nice used c5. Or even a camaro, and with the cash you saved you could do some nice mods.

The main problem is the badge IMO.
Australia - Holdens sells boring 4 door sedans
UK - The Monaro has a Vauxhall
US - Pontiac

the reason i think its not selling as well as the mustang....?

1. the mustang looks simply amazing!
2. the price... the mustang is about 7,000$ cheaper w/v8
3. it is a holdon, and in its own right, is great! but, its not a GTO... the original Muscle car should not be something else in life first.
4. it looks like a rather large chevy cavalier... mabey fat is the right word
5. this is another case of GM's "slash and burn" techniques to lower development costs, and people know it.

in any case, i think its a great car.... but i would never buy it

Well - remember the term Muslce Car is applied to a bland grocery getter with a big motor...

SO - it qualifies 110% - is a GranAm/GrandPrix lookalike - with a big motor...

That'll be the Grand Prix GXP with the 5.3L V8... about same performance as the mustang, as long as there isn't a corner

uhmmm.. actually plenty of people are buying the 05 version.. They had alot of problems with the 04 sales.. but the car was never supposed to have a volume more then 12000 a year.. Current sales are 10,018 total as opposed to 9,487 for last year ending october.
