Default Where would you like to see US GP return to?

Well. Apparently there's talks of F1 returning to United States since there are no Grand Prix in North America, and that can't be good $$$ wise. It's also implied that F1 may not return to Indianapolis if that happens. So what do you think? What would be a pretty good place for US GP? FYI, US GP has been hosted by many cities in the past, not just Indianapolis.

Indy for proximity reasons. But, I think Road America is the best layout; it would just need to be freshly repaved, new facilities, and a "close" airport = unlikely.

I suspect a new track built in LV is still more likely than to race at Watkins, or Road America.

I was going to have a poll, but stupid vBulletin means that I can't post the poll at the same time as the thread, and it won't let me post a poll 15mins afterwards.

Well. There's plenty of places where they can host the US GP if they wanted to.

-Indianapolis again
-Sebring
-Watkins Glen
-Long Beach Street Circuit
-Las Vegas Street Circuit
-Belle Island Street Circuit
-Laguna Seca
-Infineon (ehhh maybe not. not with those gradient changes)
-Road America
-Virginia IR

Hmmm. But Road America's in Wisconsin. Not the most glamorous place in the world. Las Vegas seems like the place F1 type people would like to hang out.

Indianapolis would be the best fit. I would love it to go to Laguna or Watkins Glen but there would be a lot of "improvements" necessitated by King Bernie which would make it financially unviable.

I just hope it doesn't go to a street circuit like Vegas, Long Beach

Detroit! It might bring people back to the "Motor City", and force us to pave some roads and open up some new businesses!

Long Beach, baby! Personal convenience aside . . . I'd like to see a track that kept them honest by not having cuts in chicanes and huge run-offs. When they screw up the chicane, they should at least be forced to give up a position to a close-following car. Long Beach might mean some carnage, but it'd really force a show of bravery and skill.

In reality, I don't see it working of course. For one, we get Indy next year and I don't think the F1 types would find Long Beach to be classy enough in terms of accomodations. It's nice, but it's not Monte Carlo.

there are some new tracks that would be better for f1 then some of the old tracks utah, vir, bmp but indy has the best everything other than track indy has quite the boring track layout. a new vegas strip circuit would be crazy wont happen. lagun seca a few years ago made alot of upgrades so if f1 has a problem with it they wont go there(my pick since i live so close). then theres long beach they would have to invest alot there to get that contract but there or vegas would be the perfect fit for f1, so it seems they have no reason to return

I could see Laguna Seca and the new Miller Motorsports Park (Utah) working well.

^I don't think F1 style debauchery and Utah mix well.

How about Watkins Glen?

Watkins Glen is the historical home, but there were probably worthwile reasons why it was discontinued decades ago. Indianapolis was a pretty ordinary track. If the US Grand Prix were to be re-invented, it would have to be on an all-new circuit. That seems to be the trend, now.

To be honest, I don't see a US Grand Prix working in the near future. Even if it can work, I don't see it happening. Ecclestone is aiming an emerging markets, rather than established markets. American enthusiasts aren't really interested in Formula One relative to other codes and there are no American drivers in F1.

Ohare and Miller are both close enough to Road America I don't think it would be that big of an issue.

3 hours from Ohare and 2 from Miller.

Road America was dumped from the merged Indy list. I don't think Ecclestone will interested at all. It's also in the Wisconsin boondocks, which doesn't suit the glamourous image of Formula One.
