Cool chart.

Note the bhp required to achieve a high trap speed.

Some of those old super stockers were making much more than advertised and it's worth noting that they were all stripped out race cars weighing in at under 3000 pounds.

that and most of the "halo" engines from the muscle car era were ridiculously underated.

Example : L88 Corvette - rated at 430hp, actual is in the 540hp range.

the 69 Camaro ZL1 - rated at 430hp, actual is 550hp, this i can attest to , having driven the number 55 and 57 cars.

The l88 and the ZL1s were known to get into the 11s with headers and period "cheater slicks" In the Stock vintage drag classes they are running quicker with newer tires.
