Default The R8's last race

And it went out with a bang! It won of course! LOL The R8 was painted up, commemorating its final race with the names of all the past and present R8 drivers, plus every circuit it's won on.

I hope the diecast model companies are watching, I want this livery in 1/18th!

I saw the last race of the R8 on HD CBS today, it was a very great race ! McNish was solid onboard the mighty and classic Audi R8, my favorite race car of all time. :good:

Like you 666fast, I hope this special R8 will be sold in 1:18.

Okay fill me in on this last race business. Are they out for the season or is the program over? A few friends and I are going to the Salt Lake Grand Prix in two weeks. I'm just getting into ALMS so I don't quite know the story behind the R8 other than the technical aspects of it. Why is it no longer going to race?

The R8 is done with, Audi has a new car to replace it, the R10. The R8 cannot be raced anymore since it no longer meets the new rules in place for the LMP1 class.

The new R10's will be at the Salt Lake race.

Here is some good reading on the R8 and R10:

BTW, the Pedro Lamy's Aston Martin took the class win over Corvettes Johnny O'Connel by .033 seconds! It also stopped the Corvettes winning streak at 12 races in a row!

its so stupid, maybe it has to do also with the R10 being so weirdly silent, but suddenly now it's quit i like hte R8 alot more
or maybe thats just because i know it wont dominate ALMS and le mans anymore... we've got the R10 for that now
i really hope the coming years will bring some heavy competition from porsche, peugeot and others...

btw looking at that picture also makes me realise... its not a bad looking racecar either for an open-top prototype, its pretty clean and soft-edged, and especially compared to the monster R10 its nice to look at i guess...its just only now that i realise it
