Ordered my new laptop... :)
Supposedly, it wont ship for another 8 business days. I have my suspicions
HP
dv7t Quad Ed
• steel gray
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• 2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2820QM (2.3 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
• 2GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
• 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• System Recovery DVD with Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
• 660GB 7200RPM Dual Hard Drive (SSD 160GB + 500GB 7200RPM)
• One 6-Cell and One 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery
• 17.3" diagonal Full HD HP Anti-glare LED Display (1920 x 1080)
• Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
• HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
• Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
My current laptop is aging, at 4.5 years old +- has a 1.67 ghz Core 2 Duo T5450 with no video hardware acceleration; and 3gb of DDR; and only has a typical spinning hdd. So, it will be nice to play video games on my computer if I so choose lol.
Once it's here, I'll publish my superpi, and futuremark test results

Sounds like a great machine. Computers just get better and better. I still can't get over some of my computer perceptions from 2003 (when I was into building computers) . . . a lot of those really good specs from back then now better describe current phones.

You and me both... I thought my desktop I built could be upgraded to oblivion But it was just an old ATX chassis with a 4x? AGP that was rendered obsolete when SLI became the new standard.... and PSU's were no longer ATX, let alone AT compliant lol.
If I specked out a desktop at a similar price, I'd have 6 cores, and 18gb of ram lol... and the option to raid 5 some SSD
speaking of phones... last year I was oc'ing my palm pre to 1 ghz (a factory clock of 1/2 that). It would get hot! Running stock clock rates on my XP1900+ I was @ 37C under load just after a de-dusting; and 44C with loads of dust.

Nor do I wish the hassle of dealing with iTunes; or the lack of proper web conforming code.... let alone the one reason to get a mac was that Final Cut Pro was good until recently. Now its barely a step up from what comes with mac's now.
I don't want to dual boot, I don't want to run VM software, and quite frankly I don't want the stigma of being a mac owner

Stigma? Yes everybody thinks you are a twat because you have an iPhone or Mac.
No viruses ever, instant start up, super convenient, best computer I have ever had, my windows based computers were cheaper but basically annoying all the time.

Reads like all of my Windows machines. Mind you, I build my own Rigs. And sadly, none of my machines are cheap.

I have friends with 'medium' level mac's, and they slow down just as much as PC's do over time. Why? Because they are built with the same parts. Parts fail, the OS's are pretty good, if both annoying. I still love Windows 2000/ NT5. Talk about a fast start up, rock solid stable, and easily customized. Stable too.
I don't think iphone/mac owners are twats... just pretentious. Some of them aren't until they steer the conversation to their iphone/mac. If they are pretentious enough, they become twats quickly.
It's likely my next computer will be a desktop build; but for now, I needed the portability and power. Not cheap, but Ed's is on another level lol.

I am not the sort to build my own computer, I'm not that into computers, I don't program and I don't really use it for work. I know my mac is made from the same bits as a pc but they all seem to be much better bits than I had in my old laptops, perhaps you just get what you pay for and with a mac all the bits are higher end in the first place.
As for the iPhone i'm on my 2nd a 3GS handed down to me by my brother, while I'm not interested in spending any money on mobile phones I love having this thing, I'm used to the iPhone way of working and it seems excellent to me. I did have it jail broken for a bit but didn't do much with the jailbroken side of it.

Well, my computer arrived 2 days before it was scheduled to, and 2 days before it was supposed to be shipped originally. without optimizing anything, super pi ran the 4M test in 58.5 seconds.
When this old laptop was new, it ran in just over 4 Minutes. So far, it's fast, quiet, and not hot. But I haven't really done anything intense yet.

57.2 is my new best 4M test. I ended up running each test, and even the 32M barely took over 10 minutes.
Oh, and installing software is so quick... and running PS is at speeds like I've never seen I'm looking forward to some rendering tests. 3d Mark 2011 was disappointing to say the least. I'm not sure if it was being rendered using the full potential of the graphics card or not; there are some silly options that I haven't started playing with yet.
