Glad to have you back.
And thanks for the advice. I used to plug it out during a lightning storm. But the last years I don't do it anymore, I just keep on surfing. Never had a problem with it. How bad was your crash? Maybe I have to get back to my old habits if a storm is a possible PC killer

You should get that power bar that gives you a chance to turn off your computer if there is a surge or the power goes out.

Power protection is quite cheap these days. I got mine at 95CDN 600W 1000VA. So my main computer and my cable modem is always protected.

Glad to see you back man, and glad to hear you managed to get your comp up and running again. I'm the one in my apt. that goes around yelling at people to get offline. It's dangerous for the computer and for them. If an electrical line gets hit by lightning then it'll get conducted right through the keyboard to you if you're unlucky.

what is it that this reminds me of... the second law of thurmodynamics!
you know, the crazy thing about lightning storms is that everytime it strikes, it costs more money for you... just like every time you, your nieghbor turn on/off anything, it costs you more... a lot more then what people really think about too.
anyway, i think i was just rambling on there, good to see you back komotar! electrical surges can be quite deadly to computers

That would be the worst of luck if you should get electrocuted via your keyboard. The computer case is grounded, or at least should be, and if you're not sticking your toes to the radiator and picking a copper wire from the keyboard, it's almost impossible to get a shock from the computer. I say almost, because if the lightning hits your house directly, anything can happen.
Power lines coming to the house should be underground.
And Komotar, nice to have you back. Did the insurance cover you computer?
|
No insurance.
But it wasn't half as bad as I expected. I got it fixed for free.Thank god for buddys who work in comp stores, huh....
