New Standing mile Record: 266.9 mph!!! Insanity!
Performance Power just went 253 mph in the standing mile this weekend... in a 1800+ hp Ford GT
Apparently, they had a parachute ready, but didn't use it. That is such a HUGE number above what the others were doing. Not just a small increment like what we are used to.
bye bye Supra and Lambo......
America is #1 in the mile again

i'm just wondering, given a track like the nardo ring and proper gearing what kind of top speed that car would actually get upto. MAN!! that car is a monster!!

Such things wouldn't work on Nardo... why? Because the angle of the bank is to wide for going that much above 250 mph. The tires just simply wouldn't survive very long.
They are planning on running Bonneville in an official manner with a goal of 300+ mph.

Thats what the extreme banked tracks are for, taking the extreme sideloads off the tyres and placing it on the suspension.
Some one needs to build a 85* banked 10 mile oval hehe

Gentelmen, the record has been smashed, and beaten like the little girl it was...
266 mph !!!!!! WOW
Our good friend Ray Hoffman just ran 266.9 mph in the standing mile into a direct 18 mph headwind at the Florida Exotics Event. He bested the world record of 255 set earlier today by the Performance Power GT by 11 mph!!!
Congrats to Jason Heffner & crew as well.

WOW is an understatement. The speed is insane, let alone one achieved within a mile.

Not really when yo ucome to think of it - it is about time full body cars got their speed on - top fuel dragsters have been toying with 300mphand beyond in the 1/4 for decades now... I think this is just the beginning. I believe we will be seeing some 300mph+ 1 milers before very long.

You are right... the biggest difference is the best one-miler's will have full interiors, air conditioning, and ~can~ (not necessarily will) be driven home on the street.
Top fuelers aren't based on street cars.
It's interesting to see how the best does it's thing... so little drama, almost no wheelspin, and it's over so fast.
