I agree that its kind of ugly... the RS200 was much more a design and function merger... but this was along the same lines. Cool car, and I'm sure that had this car come to fruition, it would've looked considerably better.

As far as influences.... the nose, i see the Lancia Martini car... and some other similar shapes that were created under the Group C WSC, and IMSA rules. Group B regulated that no ground effects could exist... but this car is most definitely has ground effect in mind in it's design.... it likely would not have raced in this form.

I don't think the Alpine had much influence, nor the 911.

I also think that the car is really ugly, but thanks for posting the article, I'd never knew of this car if it weren't for this article.

Interesting, it looks a bit like a Porsche 935.

I also never knew the existence of the mid-engined sport quattro as mentioned in the text and shown with the two little picture at the second scan.

Thanks a lot Skaala for this great and rare scan. :good:

I never tought it was the final design of the Audi E2. Because I prefer the look of the mid-engine Sport quattro S2 prototype with ~800hp.

Urghh, no wonder they kept it away from the public Luckily Audi now knows how to design a good looking car!

I knew I'd seen that concept car before somewhere but I've never seen an article on it. Look in the background of this photo.

The mid-engined Quattro concept kept my mind busy and finally remembered me to something I have read a couple of years ago about a mid-engined Audi "002 Quattro" project.

After a bit of searching on the net it turns out that the group S prototype of this article is called the Audi Sport Quattro RS 002. The actual name makes the searching much easier and I have found this site which has a lot of pics of the car:

The google translation makes the site much easier to read for the non French speaking among us:

Thank god they stuck to the Sport quattro. Though the prototype mid-engined S1 does looks okay.
