That's because the Commodore SS effectively replaces the SV8 as the entry-level to the sporty range of Holden V8 variants. Like the SV6 things like leather seats and curtain airbags cost another $2500.
The SS-V - with its leather trim and larger alloy wheels - is a closer match to the old SS when it comes to specification levels. So its $51,990 price tag (for the manual version) represents a $200 increase over the previous SS."

After watching this video I realised the head of Holden was American, dont remember about that happening. I thought that would have been big news.
