Default Cosworth's new V8 on the dyno - video.

http://www.cosworth.com/downloads/co...ie5_medium.mpg

Great sound!

And already 20000 rpms when we're still 8 months ahead of the 2006 season.

oh man. sounds incredible.

it sounds like there's a dip in the power at about 18400 but just before the redline it picks up again.

hopefully they can capitalise on that and raise the redline another 4000 or so.

that... would be sweet. probably totaly possible too in 8 months.

meh I don't think it sounds that great, not very meaty, I was expecting somthing more along the lines of a much louder engine like the v-8's of years gone past
this just seams to be very electrical sounding almost like a drill maybe it is becuase of that weird exhaust manifolds they have it running on?

I agree with Toronto, sound like a drill to me, but I guess the sound proving has contribute partially on this.

However, a engine running on a dyno sounds different than a engine fitted in a real car... so let's wait for the 2006 season!
Not to mention it has alot less strain...

It does remind me of the dentist though.

Doesnt sound too bad but I agree, wheres the meat!

Its cool that the smaller engines will obviously rev a lot higher but your gonna loose tonnes of power at medium to high speed surely. To me it seems V8s are going to ruin tha magic a bit in F1 but like a lot of major tech changes in F1, give it about a year and we'll be ni the same power range as before.

What I dont get is how they can claim it will save manufacturers money. Consistantcy with the v10s would have to be 10x less expensive then designing a whole new engine from scratch.

v10 sounds alot better

the power output is around 700hp for the new v8

guess like f1 is going to be slower than champ car in straight line.. that is just wrong IMO

The dyno room would also have some sound proofing soo its not really how the engine is going to sound. Even the V10's on TV sound noway near as cool as near the track...

Panis mentioned only 2.5s slower than V10 times, thats mighty impressive. Cant really compare to Champcars or IRL or watever its called these days cause they do have limiters on the RPMs and F1 engines dont plus all the other rule differences.

Currently, IRL engines are rev-limited to 10,300 rpm, and produce approximately 700 bhp at this speed. So F1 will still be faster with the V8.....

Thanks for the link mate We will have to wait until we see them on track to really appreciate the sound ... But I think Williams will need the 20.000 rpm to compete next year

um champ car and IRL cars are faster then f1 cars
I thought this was a know fact to most but I guess I was wrong...

f1 is the fastest accelerating and decelerating motorsport track cars, IRL and champ cars will beat an f1 car on an oval anyday of the week
