Ralf Schumacher has taken pole for the second race in succession in a dry qualifying session for the Canadian GP.

Alongside the German is team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya to make it an all-Williams front row after an exciting session that favoured the Michelin-shod runners.

The pair were one of the first drivers out in the second session after a dismal show in Friday’s first qualifying. But their times remained untouched with an impressive Schumacher nearly four tenths up on his team-mate.

Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher could only manage the third quickest time of the day after making a small mistake in the first sector, while team-mate Barrichello is two places down in fifth, a huge disappointment for the Brazilian after running at the top for most of the weekend.

Championship leader Kimi Raikkonen had a dire session after he crashed on his flying lap and was forced to abort his effort. The McLaren driver will start the race from the back of the grid on Sunday.

Team-mate David Coulthard added to McLaren’s woes. Although he had an error-free lap, he was still significantly off the pace down in 11th, a heavy fuel load being the obvious reason for the Scot’s slower running.

Fernando Alonso put in a great effort to clock up the fourth fastest time in the Renault. The team did not expect to run well at the Canadian circuit, but the youngster has proved them wrong yet again.

Team-mate Jarno Trulli was driving the T-car after crashing his race machine in the second practice session earlier in the day. The Italian set the eighth quickest time and slips in behind Mark Webber in sixth and Olivier Panis in seventh.

Toyota’s Cristiano da Matta lies in ninth place alongside the Sauber of Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who was the quickest Bridgestone runner after the Ferrari’s of Schumacher and Barrichello.

I didn't see this one (no Speed for me). Kimi's right-screwed
unfortunately. In an ideal world, Villeneuve would win it since his dad is the namesake of the track, but his engine will probably die (unfortunately, as usual) halfway through the race. I wonder if Motoya can pull something given his excellent positioning. Can't wait until tomorrow!

I'm very sorry for Kimi... his race will be hard and the podium impossible I fear...

Nice to see the Ferrari starting from the second line, at least once
