i am surprised with the large increase in hp and torque... thats great. but it still has the engine ass backwards, has four-wheel drive, and is a PIG... im sorry, but 3400 pounds is A LOT. you may point out that lamborghinis/ whatever are heavier, but that doesnt change the fact that its still HEAVY. youre simply naming more HEAVY cars....

I could understand the weight, but now u are trashing the rear engine and 4WD? Porsche has perfected the rear engine layout, just look at the Nurb. times. The 911 TT as said in the article are not meant to be road version race cars, GT2, GT3 will take care of that end of the deal.

SO you would need to buy 3 911's to be all-things for you... but only on C6 Z06?

Interesting concept..

LOL!! Did I mention about the better interior of the TT ~
Oh well, u gotta admit, 4WD does comes in handy in tricky condition. I am sure there are Z06 owners out there who also own a 911 TT.

Maybe, but not this one. It's nearly 300lbs heavier than the Z06 and has about 30 less horsepower. Sure it's AWD, but for a price thats 2x that of a Z06, you'd think they could get the weight down a bit. I'm sure that the build quality is also better than the Z06, but once again, it just isn't worth the extra $70,000. You're really paying for the Porsche name here, not the car itself.

Ok but you might be missing an important piece of the puzzle. A Z06 might have a better power to weight, which is really important of course. But is it the best car just because of that? There are some other factors so consider, the feel of the controls (pedals, gearshit, steering) the handling, ... And lets not forget the Porsche pedigree.

The Z06 is a mighty machine, but as a car considering the whole package I doubt it can match the 997TT.

BTW, I'm looking forward to the commoting a 997TT vs Z06 article could cause!!!

I don't think that the feel of the controls and the handling could be that much better then the Z06 to warranta $70,000 prics difference. Like I said, the porsche may be better in some of these areas, for the price of the thing, you're paying for the name, not the car.

Here's something else to look at: The base price (MSRP) of a 911 4S is about $85,000. That means for a turbo, some suspension tweaks, minimal body work you're paying an additional $45,000 for the Turbo. If thats not a rip off, I don't know what is. The difference is 120 hp and a gain of 148lbs over the standard Carrera 4S.

A base C6 vcorvette runs about $44,000. For the upgrade to the Z06, which includes almost the exact same mods as the Porsche Turbo, it's a $23,000 difference. The difference is 105 hp and a loss of about 100 lbs over the standard corvette.

If you just look at the numbers, Porsche (Turbo) is a rip off.

You need to stop comparing the Corvette against everything. It's ridiculous

first of all, porsche hasnt perfected anything. thats just ignorant. they may make a competitive sportscar with a retarded design which they have brilliantly made comparable to better overall designs, but they certainly havent perfected anything. second of all, the nurb ring times are beat by a daily driver which costs 60k less... again, not so impressive. third of all, youre paying a LOT of money for a SPORTSCAR which isnt meant to be "race[d]"... what are u supposed to do with it then, sit around and circle jerk in the office with all your other porsche owning buddies?

OK - then what would YOU compare to the 997 911 TT?

Let's hear it?

Why do you have to compare it against any car? I'm sure that 997TT buyers won't have the necessity of comparing their car against everything, an obssesion that some Corvette owners seem to have.
