Whatever. If it matches the Corvette performance, it's no surprise. I mean, with that kind of price, it'd better match the Corvette. But somehow, I don't think it will. Definitely not on looks or power...and perhaps speed.

Well most American auto magazines are crap so I will wait for proper testing or a review from a few more magazines to start really judging how this car matches up against it's price stable mate the Z06 and the car it was design tested with the 997TT.

For starters if the numbers are real then killer not so much maybe but highly competitive $$$$$ yes!

At it's price point it is out of reach for the "ricer" crowd for the most part but in a territory that will have to lure away Z06 and 911 owners. Lots of owners want heritage as with Vette and 911 crowds, so what does the GTR bring to the table that an American with this kind of money will appreciate other than shear numbers? Is it fit and finish beyond the others, does it connect the driver directly to the road, there is much for us to learn in the coming months.

Autoweek test:

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../71017001/1065

Earlier, Mizuno-san had offered some lap times from the Nordschliefe for various cars driven by the German magazine SportAuto. Those times are driver-dependent, track-knowledge-dependent, weather-, traffic- and bunny-crossing-the-track dependent. But Mizuno suggested the GT-R could get anywhere from 7:44 on up, with most laps coming in between 7:55 and 7:58.

The official engine details (supposedly):
The all-wheel-drive 2009 Nissan GT-R will be powered by a 3.8-liter twinturbo V6 engine churning out 473 horsepower with capabilities of 434 ft-lb of torque. Driving on a rear-mounted transaxle, the car will only be available with a GR6 dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission.

Nissan will give the driver use the same leather-wrapped aluminum paddle shifters currently used on the G35, according to Edmunds.

The massive engine is alleged to propel the GT-R from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, with a quarter-mile time of 11.7 seconds. If accurate, that would put the car's weight at about 3075 lbs., thus having a power-to-weight ration of .154 (339.5 bhp per tonne).

Base price of the Nissan GT-R is expected to be under $80,000, which should make it a prime target for stealing away potential Porsche 911 Turbo buyers.
