I think it does a better job towards the top, but it's also easier to spot there.

Yeah the higher the more distance it can scan. You can use the remote kit to make it more stealth ...

Radar detector is better mounted higher.
Laser detector better mounted lower - more chance of picking up the the beam as the cop tries to paint your front license plate or windshield.
Afterall - laser requires a direct hit to detect anything.

Valentine 1 and Paspport 8500 are the two brands that usually win the comparison tests

Once laser hits you you're pretty fcuked - I think it registers back to the cop within 0.3s so you won't get chance to slow down.
So I go for the top of the windshield, and don't speed on interstates where they are more likely to have laser (big cities).

We've had a V1 for a while and it is amazing. However, if you are asking this question you really should open the manual.

are you not allowed detectors in Canada?
In Illinois we can have them as long as they aren't jammers so you can mount it wherever same with alot of states including New York.

i have seen muiltinova's (speed cameras) been picked up atleast 100m more in advance, using a radar detector mounted higher up, just below the rear vision mirror is ideal imo,
as for laser, like was said before, they ping you - you're fucked!
