Lucky me I don't have many DX lenses. On this very moment I have the 70-200mm which is perfect for this FF shooter and then the 18-70mm which will be close to useless. With a DX lens you will end up with 5megapixels. The only thing that rests me is buying a 300mm f2.8 in the future cause I can combine that with the 1.7TC.
With a bit of luck I can test the D3 with the new 400mm f2.8 VR lens at the end of October I guy I know already shot with the D3 ... So time to head off at the ring on that particular october day

Cheers

These are my intentions: First of all get a new 18-70 2.8 lens, later on a 300mm 2.8 and even more later on I would like to have a 18-200mm non dx of course.

At first, I thought I would had to buy all new lenses, that my 70-200 VR 2.8 had become a piece of useless glasswork. My stomach made a double salto back then, but after reading more carefuly everything was ok again. I have already been waiting for this a looooong time ago, but like often it's the case, it was worth it. This camera will have to be my DSLR for the next 10 years. So, I don't want to end up having the slightest feeling of remorse. Already called my GF; her reacting was very satisfying too; "Just go for it Johan" :good:

It's going to be quite an update if you are used to shoot with a D70 (which I still like a very lot)

Thanks for the link ae86_16v

Cheers

Wow, after looking at it even closer both of these seems to be amazing equipments! Bravo to Nikon to continuing to step it up.

Let's hope these technology will make it down to D90s/D60s of the future.

Great to see a full frame sensor, but I am a little disappointed that the D300 still has a 1.5x crop, they could have atleast gone to 1.3 like Canon's models. Oh well.

D200 prices should drop below $1000, but I want the improved CMOS sensor in the D300.

It has a freking HDMI output too!

I guess I should start saving now

Umm, are you sure about that Crop factor? I know for sure that the XTi is 1.6x. But some websites list the 30D as 1.6x and others as 1.3x. Otherwise than that, the D300 is still a bad ass camera, it is basically a mini-D3.

Yeah, the D200 should hover around $1000-$1200 now, that means maybe it is time to get a D80?

I though the 30D was 1.3, maybe I was thinking of the 5D.

But what really matters is all the new photo imaging tech by Nikon. I really want to see some long exposure shots with barely any noise.

If I had the choice I think I'd go with the D200 over the D80, not that big of a price difference.

I just read through most of the D300 press release. I'm definitely going to get one.. but it will probably be another year or two before I can upgrade. Hopefully by then I can still get a few hundred for my D50.

Yup, I still have my D50 too, well I upgraded to the D70, and then back down to the D50. Still like the size of the D50 more. Guess what? I had to be like you and picked up a 18-200mm VR, although I wasn't as lucky and I had to pay $750, but at least no tax. Should be here on Monday.

Hi,

I think Nikon is going to opt for Full-frame cameras when it comes to the pro bodies and will still manufacture non-full frame for amateur and semi-pro cameras, like for example the D300. I don't see why they should focus themselves on creating sensors with a wickedly big amount of megapixels. In my opinion, they better focus themselves on handling noise just like they have done with the D3. It's by far the best allround shooter nowadays.
First of all, it has great noise handling ... a true breakthought.
It has a biblical fast and very sensitive autofocus, this one comes with 51 focal points  8) . I probably won't use them all all the time, but it's a great and very usefull option.
Secondly, this baby comes with the multi-cam 3500FX which stands for ultra fast autofocus. They managed to intergrate the focus system of a camera in a DSLR :good: .

Besides the focus, I like these pro cameras because they are very focused when it comes to programs. Namely, this one only carries 4 programs which are; A, P, S and manual. Why stock a camera full with all those presetting programs which you hardly or in my case never use. I don't shoot in landscape mode nor portret ... why not you may ask yourself ... well cause I don't like it and these are not flexible enough. Most of the time I use S (that covers 98% of my photography) and the other 2% is manual mode (especially for night shots).
Two other very settings when it comes to picture quality are the exposure and white balance mode. A wrong WB mode messes your whole picture up, the same song when it comes to the exposure setting. These two work together in a way. When your exposure setting isn't very great you will lose a lot of detail and it messes your colours up as well, especially white.

With a bit of luck I will be able to shoot with a D3 welded to the brand new 400mm F2.8 VRII . This means; a price tag of an insane 15.000€. A guy I know knows the right peeps at NPS (Nikon Professional Service) ... love the sound of that.

Finaly, the sensor stocks 12megapixels which on it's turn is equal to an analog negative (dia). They already got that from the D2x both it's not FF and doesn't handle the noise pretty well and costs nearly the same.

I only got a little news on the new D3x will is said to be launched in February '08. It will stock a lot more mpixels than the D3 and will be slower as well. I assume it will be full frame as well, but I'm not sure about that. It has to be the 'rival' of Canon's ultimate beast namely the 21 megapixel monster 1Ds MarkIII.

The D3 will do the job for me

Cheers
