Major change in JW funcitonality?
Didn't you have to have an account and login to read the forums and stuff in the past?
When did we change to allow guests to read and otherwise view what we are up to behind these hallowed closed doors?

when? - a month or 2 ago.
its only the general discussion type forums that are open to anyone, but it seems a good idea to let people see what the site is about before they register

It's great, I remember how many times I wanted to show a friend a discussion on JW he could never be bothered to register. I've known about the change for some time, when I browse the forums at my uni I Could open up a topic and then need to login when opening a different one
