OK, I'll try to explain it, but I don't think you will understand because you obviously like them. In a sense, t's a bit like levensnevel said, it's not my cup of tea. Only with me it's a bit worse. I'm probably taking it all too serious, but I do really hate them. Some cars I don't care about I don't take notice of, but somehow Opels get on my nerves. They represent everything I don't want in a car.
Although recent styling is not as disastrous as it has been, I still don't like the look of them. Opels seem to have always been about being as bland as possible, just not to offend anyone.
The interior and exterior don't have a quality feel (also in this area Opel is doing better, but it still isn't up to the level of the competition). I can take this from a car that makes up for it with personality, like an Alfa Romeo, but not from a box on wheels.
The controls in the Opels I have driven (Astras, Corsas, Vectra and a Calibra) seem to be set up in such a way just to prevent one from having fun behind the wheel. I didn't think much of the pedals, steering and gearbox.
The engines don't add any excitement either. They work and that's it.
The handling of older cars, such as the previous Corsa is horrible. That car is truly unstable and I wouldn't want to drive it every day. New ones are OK, but nothing special. A Ford Focus is far better.
Spending time behind the wheel of an Opel just makes me curse and swear at the damn things. No other car manufacturer is capable of doing that. Although I don't like Hyundais I'd rather drive one of those. I really do. Maybe I've gone biased after all those years of loathing Opels, but for me it's the way I feel about them.
I'd love to drive the Speedster some time. Maybe that can change my mind.
Bear in mind, this is a personal opinion. Sorry in advance.
