Default The new BMW 530

Hey, my dad is thinking of getting the new BMW 530i. Have anyone here driven it? How does it compare to the 530d?
My dad has never had a diesel, and I think he should reconsider which type of 530 he's buying.
I would rather that he get a 530d. If look at the numbers (from BMW) on acceleration while driving, and I think it's very impressive!!
The figures on 0-100 km/h is not bad either. What would you choose?

80-120 km/h in fifth gear
530i: 10 sek
530d: 6,7 sek

80-120 km/h in fourth gear
530i: 7,3 sek
530d: 5,4 sek

0-100 km/h
530i: 6,9
530d: 7,1

But the thing is, I wondered if it's possible to get a exhaust with a bit more "sporty" sound?
Even if it's a diesel, I have heard that it is possible to get, but where??

Uhm... moved to the correct section... BTW, what about your avatar? Pretty original...

As for the 530i vs 530d.. as for performance and running costs, the D will win IMO... if money wouldn't be an issue, I'd go for the 545i for sure
As for muffler sound... not really a "+" for diesels, but on a website I recently posted (you can find it in the "video and pictures links"), there is at least one diesel with sport muffler and it's not that bad

Thanks, sorry about that! I kinda new here.
Yeah the avatar....

I live i Norway, so the car prices are so damn high :x :x
The price of a 530i/d starts at about 650 000 nkr. Thats about 80-85 000 Euro.
And then add 10-20 000 Euro in equipment. So money is a issue

Therefore the 530d, it has almost the performance of an E39 M5! Except 0-100 km/h!

If you gonna buy one, it have to be the 530d.. I have an E60 530d, and it has the greatest engine so far! 80-120 takes only 4.5 sec!! (i drove the 530i too, in this car 80-120 about 6.5sec!!) So you should choose te diesel one!

There's a gearbox on those cars you know. Even though you're in Norway where almost everything's illegal, it's not illegal to change gears while accellerating.

Of course we know that, but it's just to show how much power and comfort there is in the 530d.
My dad prefers comfort, and to have so much power even driving in 80 km/h in fifth gear,
you can still overtake someone fast and safe without even changing gear!
And the drive economy of the 530d is way better than the 530i.
My dad is almost 60 years old, he thinks like this!

Of course if had to choose, I would import a R33 or R34 Skyline 8)

And it's not that bad in Norway!!

What's the point of overtaking without changing gear?

Age doesn't matter. The oldest member of BMWCCN is like 87 years of age or something. He did a 180 spin with his 7-series on the parking lot at the spring meet last year.

the new E60 5 Series looks great.

But when me and my dad were test driving the E60 530i we were rather disapointed, the active steering takes time getting used to and the interior quality isnt as good as the old car. Its awfully quiet inside the car too.....which is no where near sporty. It dosnt feel as much of a drivers car as the previous E39 model apparently.

Personaly if you were to get the petrol version now I would shoot you.....theres a new line of BMW Petrol straight six engines coming out very soon.....and they will be alot better

Don't get me wrong, I am not a Chris Bangle hater, I love the E60 5 Serie's looks, it just failed to impress when me and my dad test drove it

Petrol petrol petrol. I hate fucking diesels. They still produce ugly black clouds after a few years and when reving high. They still sound terrible. They have a smaller rev range. They've managed to become equally as good as petrols and even better as far as torque and consumption is concerned. But believe me petrol is always nicer to drive.

Shoot me if I advise my dad to buy a 530d when he's thinking about a 530i.

Diesel engines starts to get gasoline perfomances with "low" consumes. And the price of the diesel is lower!

If you can go faster and not spend so much that you would spend in gasoline. Diesel right now! =)

I treat the M5 as a small Limousine, and they just don't fit with diesel engines. The sound is plain terrible
