The bit I find rather amusing - is that now, all of a sudden a tuned 600bhp+ Corvette is a "legitimate" supersports car that must in fact be fast - when for the last 6 years this fact has been denied, argued and called out as completely false - even though they have been a dime a dozen

^ All of a sudden? I think a lot of people here have agreed for quite some time on what a great supercar the Z06 is. And now this Pratt & Miller tuned car gives the Corvette that bit of extra flair that it needed to be considered a true exotic supercar

RC is referring to more than just the current gen Z06.

The P&M car does not even have to start life as a C6 Z06, so my point is actually bolstered by your thinking only the 2006 and new C6 Z06 is a "super car" - when infact it (the anemic 505bhp C6 Z06 ) is slower and less well handling out of the box than many modded Corvettes from the previous 7 years

GM's image never really made it past the American enthusiasts.. Not to mention their cars have gotten a lot better within the last few years, its no wonder they are finally getting credit. Bob Lutz is doing one hell of a job, saving GM's ass.

I think the car sare the same - public perseption has changed.. because the reality that the Japanese makes are not all that they have been percieved to be over the years - the are just as expensive, unreliable and badly made afterall

And in the ende, perception is rea;ity

Japanese cars would not be so popular if they were not cheap and reliable in the past. Now, all car manufacturers are pretty much on the same level car building wise. Engineering a "regular" car has been done and perfected over the years, all the technology is there. All they have to do is market.

Last I checked was 3120lbs. That was before the carbon fibre hood. So it might be back down to 3100lbs.
