So you can't reach the level of the F2004 with the F2005. Even if it's only a bit less it shouldn't be this much. It's not just tyres alone. What Martin Whitmarsh was trying to point out is between the runners of the same tyre. If Minardi found 2 secs more pace with the same tyres under the new regulation with the new car, it meant that Ferrari weren't progressing as much as it should.

Yes tyres can make alot of difference but we've had all sorts of weather and temperature this year. I mean Michlelin can't have produced perfect tyres for all occasion. Like the past seasons they must have their weaknesses and BS should have their advantages etc. But nowhere was Ferrari able to match the pace of the front runners bar Imola.

Talking about Imola, why was it a one off? We all thought Ferrari has turned a corner. But apart from a slightly stronger performance (relatively) in Canada the ferraris were nowhere. The closer to the end of the season, they worse their performance. That gap to the front runners can't be attributed to the tyres alone. The car must be at fault as well.

Here are the differences between the fastest Ferrari and the fastest Jordan in some of the races this season.

The fastest racing lap for Ferrari in Malaysia is 1:36.878
The fastest racing lap for Jordan in Malaysia is 1:39.833

Difference 3 Secs.

The fastest racing lap for Ferrari in Magny Cours is 1:17.714
The fastest racing lap for Jordan in Magny Cours is 1:20.004

Difference 2.3 Secs.

The fastest racing lap for Ferrari in Monza is 1:23.466
The fastest racing lap for Jordan in Monza is 1:24.810

Difference 1.37 Secs.

Remember those two are using the same bridgestones. With ferrari's big budget, they should have been able to improve on the performance of their car better than a struggling Jordan. Even if it is easier to improve on a bad car than an already good one. Law of diminishing returns. But common, Ross Brawn, MS, JT, Bridgestone together should be doing a better job.

Monza is a difficult circuit to use in this context. The cars run such a different setup to anywhere else at Monza and the track is so dependent on the engine. Don't forget that the Toyota engine powering the Jordans is very, very strong, rumoured to be right up there in terms of power, and at times quoted as the most powerful.

True... but then again, the Toyotas with superior aerodynamics weren't faring so much better either.

But ferrari's engine isn't far down on power either. looking at the saubers' speed. so the superior aero of ferrari's not doing so good then?
