Yes, I was wondering that myself, I was pretty sure my car had syncros on 1st gear...but I wasn't 100% sure. Anyone else
I doubt their existence in my dad's car, its completely impossible to engage 1st while moving, even if you're just creaping.

Its very difficult to find out any car with the syncro first gear on the market, its like to find out a car with the handbrake on the front wheels

Unless we are talking about an very old car (in which unsychronised 1st gear is possible), it should be possible to engage 1st up to about 40 kph wizhout any problem or the syncro is dead...

I did not say slam into 1st, but gentle push will do the trick...
I've driven a lot (and I mean a loooooooooooot) of cars in my life and only cars that have slight problem with that are the ones with very short 1st gear (6-speed diesels, off-roaders). With others you can do it as much as you like - but as you said, it's faster with howdoyoucallitinenglish? Double clutching with some gas inbetween ...
