Default Dingo is going to the Outback - in some exotics! (preview)

Well its time to spill the beans (since I have hinted at it before), but on August 4th I will be flying to Alice Springs (see the map) for 6 days of pure heaven.

I will be meeting up there with a bunch of exotic car owners and a couple of other enthusiasts. My main role on the trip will be photographer – something I am more than happy to do!

The participants that are confirmed:

· Lamborghini Murcielago
· Lamborghini Gallardo
· Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
· Ferrari 360 Spider
· Ferrari 550 Maranello
· Porsche 996 GT2
· Porsche 996 Turbo
· Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG (maybe)
· Lotus Esprit S4
· Honda NSX
· Porsche Boxster
· Subaru WRX
· Nissan 350Z

There were a couple of other cars considering coming, but for various reasons will not make the trip. (ie. Testarossa, 328, Diablo, TVR, Miura ( ), GT40…..)

I have taken the seat in the 550 to start with, but over the 6 days I will swap around and hopefully get to experience them all.

The main reason this place has been selected is because it is one of the few remaining places on earth where there are NO SPEED LIMITS!!!! So these cars can be used like they were meant – with me in the passenger seat.

Here’s a little pic of the Stuart Hwy…..

Australias largest car magazine (MOTOR) will most likely be joining us on one of the days to get some pictures and info which they will feature in a future issue. If they attend they will be bringing along another car - all they've said is it would be different.

We will obviously do some of the tourist stuff like visiting Uluru (Ayers Rock) and such, since alot of us have never been out there before.
So I will return with plenty of car pics (and vids), but also some scenery shots of the outback.

If any of you have a request (i.e. particular videos or pictures for example) then let me know and I’ll see what I can do…..

To say I am excited would be an understatement……bring on August the 4th!!!!

I couldn't hold it in any longer and had to share it with the rest of JW.

Yes I would have loved to see the Miura out there - but in the end the owner wasn't willing to bring such an (old) masterpeice to the middle of nowhere (where there is not likely to be a mechanic for miles if needed).

I can fit about 150 pics at full-res on my memory card, and at the end of each day I will upload them to the laptop. So over the 5 days I can get about 750 pictures - enough?

Its not a race and they are all sensible guys so no insane things will happen I would say. Having said that, the Murcie owner who lives in Alice Springs has reached 320kmh  on the hwy before.

No my Holden will not be going, as I said I will fly there and then be passenger in the cars for the entire trip.

I will hopefully get some time in all of the cars, shouldn't be a problem with the amount of km's we will be covering.

Thanks, and yes I do have a decent video camera (only 1 year old) so the sound should be no problem.

* my digital camera obviously.
* the polarizer filter and a tripod for some morning/night shots.

Great idea with video camera too. Will you have any chance to get on the net to drop off images and vids so you can start a day with empty memory cards? I dont mean here on JW but somewere on the net and.., then obviosly editing it later,..... and posting a few "preview" pics so we can drool all over the comps

Yes, I will be bringing my laptop so I can empty my memory card at the end of each day.
There is an internet cafe near my hotel, so if I find the time I might drop in for a visit at JW with a preview pic or two....

I've had it for about a month or so I think.

I'm already used to it now, at first I sometimes forgot to adjust it but now its not a problem. It doesn't take long to get used to the adjustment, as you can see the result of turning it on the screen while you do it.

Its an essential piece of equipment to have to get the best possible pics, makes a huge difference in certain situations.

God bless Hoya filters

Great trip, how did this happen ? I mean, how did you manage to be the official photographer of this event ? (and get your plane ticket paid - yes, one of those new flying things that can fly all around the world as you told me a few days ago )
