BERLIN — Luxury sports car maker Porsche AG confirmed today that its net profit soared in the fiscal first half of 2007, boosted primarily by a gain from its stake in Volkswagen AG.

Net profit rose to about $1.5 billion in the half ending Jan. 31, higher than the $1.38-billion preliminary figure reported in January at the company’s annual general meeting, compared with about $222 million in the same period a year earlier.

Porsche’s 27.3% stake in Volkswagen contributed a gain of more than a $1.32 billion, while the revaluation of Volkswagen shares held by Porsche yielded another $684.48 million, the company said.

“Since the start of our investment in Europe’s biggest automotive group around a year and a half ago, Porsche’s share price has risen by 50%, and Volkswagen’s share price has doubled,” the company said in a statement. “Any initial doubtful voices in relation to our shareholding in VW have long since faded.”

Sales fell to $4.04 billion from about $4.06 billion — slightly better figures than initially reported — as Porsche sold 39,265 cars, down from 42,230 in the same period a year earlier.

Porsche attributed its overall 7% drop in unit sales to the model change for the Cayenne SUV. Production of the first generation Cayenne was discontinued in November 2006 with sales of the new model not starting in Europe and Asia until late February. On the other hand, sales growth of the mainstay 911 and Boxster series were up 15.7% and 19.6% respectively.

Earnings before taxes rose to $2.09 billion after a figure of about $363.7 million in the prior-year period and Porsche reiterated its expectation of surpassing 2006’s pretax profit of $2.76 billion in the 2007 fiscal year.

“Porsche is more optimistic for the 2006-2007 fiscal year as a whole than it was at the beginning of the fiscal year.” the company said.

“Even the difficult market environment in the USA does not overshadow this optimism. Porsche aims to match the high prior-year level of unit sales and sales revenue with the growth markets in eastern Europe and Asia contributing substantially to sales.”

Porsche designers, true to their form-follows-function roots, added a performance-enhancing sport exhaust system with visually unique twin tips. Safety bars, designed to help protect occupants, stand out when dressed in 911 GT3 RS orange paint. And the SportDesign package that includes spoiler lips that mount on the standard front trim, an automatically extending and redesigned rear spoiler, and modified rear trim with integrated diffuser not only provides a more striking and sportier appearance, it also improves aerodynamics by reducing lift on both the front and rear axles without increasing aerodynamic drag.

Complimenting the orange paint are black painted wheels with the rims in silver. Other elements in black include the exterior side mirrors, the front and side air inlets, the car's model designation on the rear deck, and a black convertible top.

Black carries over to the seats, carpet, dash, door panels and other surrounding soft surfaces. Adding to the performance theme is the use of Alcantara trim, a suede-like material used on performance Porsches like the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS. Alcantara is pleasant to touch, but it also helps occupants stay planted in the interior during aggressive driving. Alcantara trim is used on the three-spoke steering wheel from the 911 GT3 RS, the seat inserts and handbrake lever.

to be honest this is probably the 911 model that least interests me... i prefer the cabrio to have the pure lines of the NA 911's...

ATLANTA, July 26, 2007 --- Porsche, a company renown for its high-performance sports cars and sport utility vehicles (SUV), this week in Stuttgart demonstrated to the media a Cayenne SUV hybrid prototype, providing a glimpse of what the company will offer to consumers by the end of the decade.

Porsche is targeting average fuel consumption figures of 9.8 liters/100 kilometers in the New European Driving Cycle and about 24 miles per gallon in the US FTP cycle for the Cayenne Hybrid, and future developments may allow Porsche engineers to push towards an average fuel consumption figure of 8.9 liters/kilometer (approximately 26 miles per gallon).

The Cayenne Hybrid will feature a full-hybrid design where the hybrid module (clutch and electric motor) is positioned between the combustion engine and the transmission rather than having the hybrid drivetrain branching output along various lines and in various directions via a planetary gearset. Porsche selected this design because the in-line configuration of the hybrid components are more compatible with the existing Cayenne platform, this system in testing is more fuel efficient, and because this configuration is a better fit for Porsche as it will provide improved acceleration and engine flexibility compared to a conventional Cayenne.

Coordinating the car's three main components – the combustion engine, the electric motor and the battery – is the Hybrid Manager, the heart of the Cayenne Hybrid. The Hybrid Manager, which oversees some 20,000 data parameters as compared to only 6,000 data parameters for a conventional engine, is one of the most powerful technologies found in any hybrid vehicle.

Other unique features of the Cayenne Hybrid designed to decrease fuel consumption include the power steering and vacuum pump for the brakes, as well as the air conditioning, which operate on electric power. Technical components, such as the oil pump in the Cayenne's automatic transmission, have been replaced by electrically powered units. The Cayenne Hybrid's electro-hydraulic steering – a first for a vehicle of its kind, will ensure the Cayenne Hybrid drives like a Porsche with predictable and safe handling characteristics and the agility that is expected of a Porsche SUV.

Porsche plans to introduce similar hybrid technology in a version of its Panamera four-door Gran Turismo. The Panamera will debut in 2009, with a hybrid to follow.

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), based in Atlanta, Ga., and its subsidiary, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd., are the exclusive importers of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne sport utility vehicles for the United States and Canada. A wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, PCNA employs approximately 300 people who provide Porsche vehicles, parts, service, marketing and training for its 213 U.S. and Canadian dealers. They, in turn, provide Porsche owners with best-in-class service.

Porsche releases launch date, price for Limited Edition Boxster

08/09/07, 03:50pm, EDT

Porsche announced today the launch date as well as pricing for their up-coming Limited Edition Boxster and Boxster S. The 500 Limited Edition Boxster and Boxster S models will hit showroom floors on September 28, 2007 throughout the U.S. and Canada with a starting price of $49,000 and $59,000, respectively.

Both the Limited Edition Boxster and Bxster S will be painted a striking orange, a color that was once reserved for only the track-ready GT3 RS, and will wear "Limited Edition" plaques on their glove boxes. Other Limited Edition perks will include a sport exhaust system, body-colored safety bars, and a SportDesign package that includes spoiler lips in the front, an automatically extending and redesigned rear spoiler and a modified rear trim with integrated diffuser that provides a sportier appearance.

To contrast with the orange exterior color, Porsche has added several touches of black. Both cars come with black rims, 18's for the Boxster and 19's for the Boxster S, as well as black exterior mirrors and air inlets. The black theme carriers into the interior with black seats, steering wheel (the same as found in the 911 GT3), carpet, dash and door panels. Alcantara is also used throughout the interior to give the cabin a sportier and more up-scale feel.

Default Avalanche GT2 650 EVO-R - world’s most expensive Porsche

Gemballa revealed the new Avalanche GT2 650 EVO-R. Priced at £300,000 ($610.000) the GT2 650 EVO-R is world’s most expensive Porsche ever (not including the Carrera GT that is out of production).

The Avalanche is based on the 911 Turbo featuring a 650 h engine and a body entirely constructed of carbon. It makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in just 3.2 seconds and the 125mph in less than 10.0 seconds. Top speed is 208 mph.

The GT2 650 EVO-R is a big competitor for supercars like Pagani Zonda and Koenigsegg CC8S.

And if 650 hp is not good enough for you, Gemballa is also working on a 750 hp version, but there are no info about its performance at the moment.
