wow, that looks pretty amazing. Kinda like an Arab version of Las Vegas or something........but with even more money to spend on crazy/cool architecture and stuff it looks about 1,000% nicer!!

I must say, from the looks of things it seems the Arabs do sin city better then the Americans

Kinda sad when you consider the number of poor people in the United States and the Middle East though.........its just kinda a bit.......sick.

Remmember that commercial "Wish your money could be doing more"?? I kinda wish oil money could be doing a bit more for the people......like creating a future beyond the end of oil. Rich folks playgrounds are fine and all........but when the oil runs out...........

Either way, amazing pictures. That does look like a nice city. I'd like to visit some time but first Id have a few questions:

1. What is the status of women in the UAE?
2. Does the UAE respect/tolerate the presence of minority religions/religions other then Islam ? What I mean is, does the UAE tolerate/allow religious diversity within its permanent population?
3. Does the UAE have "guest workers" similar to other Arab countries and how well are those minority workers treated?
4. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the peoples freedom and thier ability to bring about change in government. For example, does the UAE have a free press or is it all government controlled?
5. I assume the security situation in the UAE is quite good, but is that because of strict government control or because the people generally tolerate tourism and foreignors well?
6. What is the literacy rate in the country. I hear it is quite high but Im not sure.
7. Dubai looks VERY expensive. Is it possible to vacation there for a week or so for less then $40,000?
8. If a family were to go to the beach, could the women wear standard one piece bathing suits and go swimming or are there restrictions?
9. How safe is it for a woman to travel alone in Dubai (or is this severely frowned upon as it is in some other ME countries) ??

Obdr... Fair questions..

but first Dubai is semi-independent Gov, ( i don't know what that means, but they have there own police force & and most Gov procedures and individual than other states) + Oil is only 14% of it's annual income!

So,

1. ??? What do you mean! Status?
2. Yes. we do.
3. Yes!
4. Yes, we have freedom in press, Dubai enjoys that! not the rest of Emirates thou.
5. Security is good, still not yet major problems. but it is getting itchy due to many people from East and West who drink and drive, then BOOF! Thats scares the shit out of me when I see then driving like crazy... For me, my secure roads are raped by them!
6. I know for a fact, Sharjah (30 minutes away from Dubai) one of the most educated place in the Arab world, Especially the women are the highest in %.
7. Come On!
8. Sometime, you might catch them topless!!!
9. Safe, as long as she is respecting herself.
