Default Cheap laptop suggestions?

A cousin of mine wants to get a cheap laptop, around US$ 500, he just needs basic things like office to do papers for his classes, watch videos... what processors do you recommend?

You could wait and see how the Asus eeePC turns out. It's dirt cheap, runs a custom linux and is only $200-250 USD.

But if you're looking for a real laptop, pretty much Acer is the only decent thing at that price range. At that price, you're pretty much looking only at Turions, old centrinos possibly or a used laptop. Also, for basic stuff like that, any processor will run it fine.

If you were living in the wet UK you could get one for free. Propbably crappy, but better than mine. Check out PC world and Orange.

15*24 = £360 with no getting out of the contract before the 2 years are up.

Not the greatest deal for the consumer
