The first-generation S8 came to America in I believe 2001. It lasted until the last year of the body style, 2003.

There is a RS4, that is Europe only. There was a S6 Avant in 2002 or 2003, but that was replaced by the RS6 as the RS6 is much more powerful. I believe the R denotes an even more powerful version of the S, if that makes any sense.

I think ABT obtained the new S8 before it came out...but I'm not sure.

Abt is just an aftermarket tuner, they work for Audi, VW, Skoda, and Seat. This car is nothing more then a modified 2004 Audi A8, a counterpart then a Brabus modified S600 or a Hartge modified 7-series. They call it AS8 merely because they want to.

This car has no relation to any future Audi products. There is no RS8 on the drawing board, but an S8 is likely eventually, more then likely a modified form of the A8L W12.

Forbes says that the A8L 6.0 from Europe could possibly come here as the S8...but they might also introduce a new model. I don't think any information has been released yet.

I would rather have a regular A8 I'm sure the performance is good from ABT but I don't like the styling of the car.

The A8L W12 was already at the Detroit Auto Show, no badging on it saying S8.
