"For example, for the 360, both Modena and 360 Challenge were powered by a V8 engine with an output of 400 hp and the 360 CS got a more powerful engine: a 325 hp V8."
WOAH that's so much more powerful lol.

Meanwhile, the performance over the years seemed like the cars HP matched the name..

as in 360hp for the F360, 430hp for the F430 - so no doubt the 540 woul dneed 540hp.. just to keep up with the big german sedans

I dunno bout the 360, but the F430 actually has 490bhp, not 430, that figure actually refers to the engine size, which is 4.3 liters.
UHm - yeah - I know that.. reading carefully above..

Meanwhile, the performance over the years seemed like the cars HP matched the name.. seems like... appears to.. as in, the cars are s slow, they behave as if they only have "HP that matches the name"..

Leftlane News:

Spied: 2010 Ferrari F430 successor?

The photographers at spy firm Hidden Image have snapped a single shot of a new Ferrari model under wraps near the Italian automaker's Maranello headquarters.

Supposedly a successor to the Ferrari F430, the new car would likely arrive as a 2010 model. Ferrari started offering the F430 as a 2005 model, and the 360 as a 2000, suggesting a five-year lifespan is typical for these vehicles. The Ferrari F355 was also sold for just five years.

According to Hidden Image, the car will feature radical new styling scheme, the new option of all-wheel drive, reduced body weight and improved handling from innovative adaptive suspension damping.

Since F1 racing cars have switched back to V8 power, expect the F430's successor to feature a V8, rather than a V10 to match Lamborghini's Gallardo.

The new car would likely be shown in early 2009. Is the car pictured under wraps the successor to the F430 or something else? You be the judge…

600 bhp would put it in direct competition with the F599. And I am not sure that a V10 would replace a V8 as now Formula 1 have V8 engines
It would be better to lower the weight by 100-150 kg with a small hike in power.

So no V10 is what they are saying. Would be interesting to see a V8 keeping up with those V10 engines

Its called insertable AWD. Its a super light and E-diff controlled AWD that has been mentioned and confirmed. It isnt anythign like AWD from porsche, its very passive and does not altogetehr change the behavior of the car, I believe it only adds somewhere around 30-50 kg's.

More info:

According to the spy photographer, he managed to get shots of the fully finalized model! Unfortunately, it is hidden under a red cover spotted from a long distance and he was not able to get a shot with it off. Nevertheless, this image gives evidence that the work is much more advanced than previously thought, and the eagerly awaited new model could debut before the end of 2008.

For some time, it was speculated that Ferrari would opt for a V10 engine in order to match the Lamborghini Gallardo. However, since Formula 1 regulations went back to using V8's, Ferrari decided to stay with the proven configuration for the F430 successor. Some of our sources from within the Ferrari factory have hinted to a supposed 5.4 litres of displacement. However, from an engineering point of view, a more moderate, figure-inverted, 4.5 litres seems much more likely. More interestingly, as a result of the increased engine displacement, Ferrari, through their extensive experience in Formula 1 and track-based Ferrari FXX are planning to raise the maximum rev limit from 9,500 to 10,000 rpm with output in excess of 370 kW / 500 hp.

From these spy photos we can see this prototype has camouflaged lateral air scoops in the side of the front bumper fascia (in front of the front wheels) which alludes to an improved braking system which requires increased cooling capabilities. Also, we can see enlarged and flared lateral air intakes in front of the rear wheels which suggests increased cooling needs of a larger engine. Lastly, a revised and partly camouflaged flow efficient rear skirt and exhaust setup all derived from the Challenge Stradale can be seen.

A radical new styling scheme, the new option of all-wheel drive, reduced body weight and improved handling from innovative adaptive suspension damping will all mark important aspects in bringing Ferrari well ahead in the competition with the Lamborghini Gallardo and Audi R8/RS8. And in this respect, the new Ferrari cannot be released too soon, although the current F430 is still a fantastic car and virtually sold out.
WCF claims that these spyshots are those of the F430 successor but it could perhaps be the CS... I'm also skeptical about a 2008 release...
