Honda ASIMO practices being our future Robotic Overlord (video)
Honda ASIMO robot to conduct DSO performance for youth
April 23, 2008
Is the future of classical music in the hands of a robot?
That might be a bit far-fetched, but Honda's ASIMO humanoid robot will take command of the baton in Detroit on May 13. ASIMO will condut the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as it performs "Impossible Dream" to open a concert performance featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Honda said in a news release. The concert is part of the DSO's Youth music Programs.
The day after the concert, ASIMO will demonstrate its abilities for during a master class at the DSO, where a select group of music students will receive personal music instructions from Yo-Yo Ma.
Scienetists began developing ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility) in 1986 to eventually assist the elderly and disabled in their homes. While Honda continues to develop and enhance ASIMO's capabilities, the robot is being used today to encourage and inspire young students to consider studies in math and science. Honda has donated the DSO with $1 million to create The Power of Dreams Music Education Fund.
