Default New BMW 2 series

Has anyone heard about this? I keep hearing a word here and a word there about it, but I've seen no pictures or press releases or anything. It would be great to have BMW making four cylinder engines again.

Well, if they're changing all the names like that I might have meant the 1 series, but I think I meant the 2 series. I've just heard that they are going to pick up where they left off with the old 2002s, so I assumed 2 series. Who knows, BMW is a mess right now.

pimrusis, these nonsense posts of yours are really starting to get on even my nerves.

The 2 series will in deed be a 2-door version of the 1 series (in 2005 I believe). But please note that BMW is making 4-cyl engines all the time. Both petrol and diesel. Even the non-throttle VALVETRONIC system was first put to 1.8 litre 4-cyl engine in the Compact and 3-series (now seen in V8 engines as well).

As Imre has already mentioned, the 2-series will basically be a two-door version of the 1-series, previewed as the CS1 concept car. There will be an M2, but no M1, as a mark of respect to the BMW M1, the Bavarian automaker's first, and only, supercar. The M2 will supposedly have a 4-cylinder petrol engine, producing up to 260 Bhp, from 2.2 litres, with modified Valvetronic throttle lift and Double VANOS cams, rivalling the VTEC engine of the S2000 for specific output (2 litres, 240 bhp). There are also plans afoot, still in consideration by the BMW board, i believe, to either make a 2-series cabriolet (4 seats) or a smaller, lighter version of the Z4 called, obviously, the Z2, a strict two-seater. Both of which would use the chassis of the E92 2-series, whicih itself is derived from the E91 1-Series.

hgt, you're right about them making four cylinder engines, I forgot. What I meant was it will be nice to have the four cylinder models availible in the US again. Of course there's the mini too, but it's not quite a BMW.
