The whine you hear from superchargers is to do with the location of the blower and design of the internal gears and for lobed positive displacement blowers, the angle of the blower lobes.

Straight cut, straight geared roots blowers on top of the motor give the Mad Max whine... a single impeller turbine blower with helical gears sitting way at the front of the motor will be almost impossible to hear.
