Default Fisker Karma S Convertible concept to enter production

DETROIT, MI Jan 12, 2009: Fisker Automotive, the new American manufacturer
of premium green automobiles, unveiled the Fisker Karma S concept at the 2009
North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) today. The four-seat, plug-in
hybrid hardtop convertible furthers the company’s belief that driving style and
performance need not be compromised for environmental friendliness.
The open-air Fisker Karma S concept shares its aluminum spaceframe architecture
and clean Q-DRIVE® powertrain with the Fisker Karma sedan. Designed and
engineered by Quantum Technologies exclusively for Fisker Automotive, Q-DRIVE®
provides 50 emission-free miles on a single charge to its lithium-ion battery pack,
and up to 403hp from two electric motors. The power retractable hard top, a first
for Fisker, glides neatly into the trunk and a unique design language sets the Karma S
concept apart.
“Our objective is to create a singular design language and heritage around our state-
of-the-art Q-DRIVE® powertrain,” said Fisker Automotive, Inc. CEO Henrik Fisker.
“The Karma S is an extension of the Fisker Automotive product range of eco-
conscious automobiles and sets the tone for our future.“

you know... this thing is really good looking, if they wanted to make serious cash they ought to release a normal petrol version of it at the same time the hybrid goes to market, I am sure people would buy it in droves

The car looks fantastic from some angles; namely... these ones.

Fisker's look horrid, and disproportionate from others. There are uglier cars, but I just can't jump with this one based on style alone.

Accepting orders even before the sedans are on the road... I hope they understand why Tesla's in the crapper.

Just as a reminder, the sedan weighs a massive 4650lbs and runs on a turbo Ecotec I4 mated to electric drivetrain producing up to 408hp and 959lb-ft of torque with 0-60 estimated somewhere around higher 5 second range.

Apparently, the Fisker Karma S Concept is no longer just a concept. We spoke with Fisker Automotive’s public relations chief Russell Datz, who confirmed that the company is indeed taking deposits for the Fisker Karma S with deliveries expected to begin at the end of 2011.

While those interested in the Fisker Karma four-door plug-in hybrid sedan will have to make a deposit of $5,000, buyers looking for some fun in the sun with the Fisker Karma S will have to make a deposit of $25,000. How much will the drop-top Karma go for?

“No pricing announced yet – but it will likely be significantly more than the Karma sedan,” Datz told eGMCarTech in an e-mail. He also said that the first 250 units will be “specially configured” and will be “designated as first-run vehicles and perhaps numbered.”

The Karma S hard-top convertible was designed and engineered by Quantum Technologies and features the Q-Drive powertrain system that allows for 50 miles of zero-emissions driving on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack. It produces up to 403-hp from two electric-motors.
Meanwhile, Fisker has aired its first Karma commercial on TV just last weekend.

It also confirms the use of solar panels as power source.

haha, a very interesting description. i've always thought of the front grille as a 'smile,' with the ends curved upwards a bit too severely....

kind of like jack nicholson's 'joker'
