Fair point, I see what you mean about being 'tight'. I suppose that type of parking is not that common in the UK, well in London at least.

Any more progress on the ticket front?

Well I have 28 days to pay before they do anything.
What I did this morning was ring the licensing centre to check if the rego plate which is on the ticket actually exists....and it does, so some poor guy is gonna get a reminder to pay his fine which isn't for him.
It will be interesting to see what happens......

** UPDATE **

well the situation has just changed, as I have received a 'reminder notice' advising me to pay $50 by the 5th Jan. On this notice my rego number is correct all of a sudden, so they somehow realised there mistake and changed it.
What should I do, since if I mention on the original ticket the rego was wrong I am basically admitting that I did commit the offence??????
Any advice would be appreciated, since I really don't want to have to pay this fine.

give them the origional with the wrong rego number written on it and say "i don't own this car" basicley

but in WA they don't respond to phone calls, they only talk/negociate via. the courts..

here is an intresting thing i read in a perth car club forum.

Do what someone did several years ago with a mate of mines car.
Found a similar car and 'borrowed' its plates at an unamed wrecker, made slits in the numberplate mount, and plopped them in whenever we parked. Fines made great paper planes.
weather it is true or not, is up for debate.

but the topic on that forum was brought up because he parked on a street in perth, and kept moving his car evrey 2 hours (in a 2 hour parking zone) to a different part of the street, and wondered why he got the fine, but aparantley thats against the law.

but if I do that I am admitting this ticket was found on my car, and therefore that I DID commit the offence. I'm not sure if I can argue the ticket on the basis the rego number is wrong when I am admitting to parking illegally??

yeah it does unfortunately, seems I may just have to pay the damn fine. I just still believe that you cannot change the details after the offence has been committed, its a bit like tampering with evidence IMO. Another thing I can compare it too is when a shop puts the wrong price on some product, they have to give it to you at the display price even though they made a mistake....in Oz anyway.
However I don't know the rules/law regarding the ticket, and its not worth getting legal advice over it since its 'only' $50.
