Default I got my new car ! [Golf 4]

Hi all !

Yesterday I bought a car !

It's a 2002 Golf IV, it is in very good state, nothing to say, i'm too happy !
It's also a bit faster than my previous car (a Passat of 1998).

The motor is a 1.9L TDI.

Here are the photos:

I think something is missing.....

Anyway, its a nice car - a Golf is always a good choice.

Does the odometer say 238,199km......or is it 23,819.9km???

No this is the 100hp (74Kw), i'm wondering what to do to transform it in 110Hp, i'm reading the manual and I see that the 110Hp version is eating less gazoil then the 100Hp !

It's a Turbo Diesel? If so, an ECU update has proven to push power up quite easily in modern Turbo Diesel engines, by 20-40hp.

Probably will cost you about $1500 I would think...

The price could vary a lot...

Actually, come to think of it, in Switzerland at least, a company called Digit Power has the following prices offered for tuning TDi Golf's, and a 110hp version is on the list for a price of 1180chf (790eur).

Power goes from 110hp and 235nm of torque, to 140hp and 300nm of torque. That's quite a lot!

http://www.digit-power.com
Golf IV 1.9 TDI 110 / 235 140 / 300 1'180 790
Golf IV 1.9 TDI 90 / 210 120 / 275 1'180 790
Golf IV 1.9 TDI PD 100 / 240 130 / 300 1'180 790
Golf IV 1.9 TDI PD 115 / 285 145 / 360 1'180 790
Golf IV 1.9 TDI PD 130 / 310 160 / 390 1'180 790
Golf IV 19 TDI PD 150 / 320 175 / 420 1'180 790

Some other companies like powerchips also exist. But my guess is the job will be around $900 from them all

If you would transfer a standard 1.9 TDI 100 spec to a standard 1.9 TDI 110, it would cost even more. I don't know it by hard, but I remember it has something to do with a different turbo or intercooler.

Anyways, reflashing the ECU (chiptuning) or a powerbox is much cheaper (around € 500 over here). But I wouldn't recommend it on an engine with such a high milage.

I was speaking about ECU upgrade prices. They can go up to $1500. And his car has 110hp, not 100.

Improving airflow is another story. Better filters cost between 100 and 200 bucks, and you can also tinker away with the tubes that direct air into the engine.

For example, on my SLK, removing the airbox and cutting off the small fins inside will make it a lot easier for air to flow in to a certain direction as has been proven by a few other owners. It's a free mod, all you need is something sharp like a knife or a dremel, and some sandpaper. I haven't actually done the mod yet, maybe later, who knows...

But anyway, it's the ECU upgrades which "seem" to make it possible for a turbo diesel to gain a very healthy number of ponies. It all depends of course if the owner of the car actually wants to go quite that far *shrug*

If he can go "free" upgrades, he should start with that

One tuner once told me that for a 30hp increase, it's best to first drive your car for a few months to get used to the power. Once you're used to it, go and do the upgrade. You'll like the modification so much more. If you go ahead and buy a car with X amount of HP, and then immediately go and add some more, you'll never actually feel the difference since you never got used to the original power levels.

Congrats on your purchase!

235k is easy for a TDI, especially if it has done most of them on motorways.

Nice aluminium(-look) panels in the doors. Haven't seen that before, although I must admit I haven't been in too many Golfs.

I don't mean to be a spoilsport, but what happened to the left corner of the front bumper?
