Where does it say the warranty is void if you turn it off? I'm not claiming it isn't, it just doesn't say that in the scan provided. Anybody have the Warranty Information Booklet it refers to?

The scan is from the owners manual.

Posted by a new GT-R owner himself.

Read em and weep... the GT-R is all show and no go

See post #3 in that thread made by the new owner.

...drum roll...

"contact a GT-R certified Nissan Dealer for..."

"Do not blah blah. Doing blah blah blah will void your warranty. See Warranty Information Booklet"

Overall, my observations are:

- There is more stuff about how to sit right and put a car seat in any anything else. Maybe just in the US because of our "I'll sue you" driven society.

- I am bummed that I can't even change the oil let alone other fluids. That has been my one joy in the last 6 Nissan/Inifiniti cars I have owned.

- Seems there will will lots of transmission noises. The conditions of the noises are interesting, which leads me to believe that they tested the heck out of that transmission and also how am I to know when the noise is normal vs a genuine problem? e.g. Use M mode in cold weather to avoid transmission clanking ...seriously "clanking".

- Turning VDC Off is as bad as sleeping with your wife's hot sister.

- For being a super car, I am slightly disappointed that they did not include a few Infiniti luxuries such as meters/gauges moving with steering wheel, electronic steering wheel adjustment, entry/exit system, seat memory, electronic front seat retracting for rear access, no fog lights, no backup camera, etc. Although I did like the folding mirrors button.

- Don't put custom exhausts cause they can melt the plastic on the rear. Don't remove rear carpeting cause it will decrease heat dissipation from exhaust and increase transmission noise. Don't change front fascia, it will cause brake rotors to overhead. All valid but interesting.

- Lastly, big brother will be watching (see attachment)

- Despite this, I still love it and can't await to get it.
Some interesting finding ...

Current bid on Ebay for GT-R is ~100k

Knowing Nissan, it's probably more like your wife's hot mother.

And it gets better..
..Nissan also stipulates that all GTR's are washed by special "Detail Specialists" and can only be performed at the dealerships.. Doing otherwise also voids your warranty

the story just says they have a super-duper machine for washing the car, and that voiding the warranty stuff is porbably just a line written by a journo to sensationalise the story, and the story is nearly six months old....and there was nothing of the sort on the scanned warranty booklet...still very pissed off about the VDC off thing though

Hmph. I don't see what the big fuss is. The voiding provisions are easily severable. Turning off the 'VDC' is going to void the VDC's warranty but not anything else. If you were going to turn it off, it's unlikely you'd care too much if it stopped working. Furthermore, Nissan never intended for you to turn it off, so the idea is that you don't, or Nissan won't like you very much.

However, it seems Nissan have installed a very fragile system in this car and lacks confidence in its abilities. They've failed to create a system that can be swtiched on and off without risk of harm, so they've gone for the next best thing - a cover-up. Now, that's bad.

The point is that nissan want to keep these cars OUT of the local smash repairs and pick a part shops

After seeing how the last 10 years of GTR's have been treated.. im glad they are taking the step from making it a boy ricer burner to a adult power machine.

Over protective...yes, but its whats needed to be done.

The voided warranty is against the driveline, not the electronic traction control's ability to turn on and off.

Why not wrap the car in bubble wrap while we're at it? Or limit new owners to 2nd gear for a year, and require a CAMS license to even make a purchase?
How is voiding the warranty when disabling your TC, converting it to an 'adult power machine'? It's not.
