Porsche readying Veyron rival
Porsche is working on a rival to the Bugatti Veyron, according to the latest issue of the U.K.'s Autocar magazine. The car will use the GT1 moniker, and offer around 950 horsepower, the report says. Top speed should be right around Veyron at approximately 254 mph. The GT1 will pick up where the now-discontinued Porsche Carrera GT left off. It will share many components and design elements with the car, as well as technology from the automaker's forthcoming Le Mans competitor. Unlike the Carrera GT, the new GT1 will have a full roof, despite carrying over the chassis from the über roadster. The car will likely be offered as a 2009 model.

Nice to see my favourite Porsche road car nameplate making a return, and it seems it'll be meaner than ever!
*this is the old GT1, not the one from the article

eh
I honestly dont see Porsche going more then 800 hp myself.
not to mention, Porsche isn't aiming at disenfrancheising VW group since they have in excess of 20% of thier stake.
besides, 800 hp and a clean roof profile would have a GT1-ish porsche topping 230 easily, even with significant d/f.
I go a step further and suggest that porsche might stay at or below 220 mph as there is no proper track that allows such rediculous speeds... Even NS you would need tremendous D/F down Dottinger...

Well, no matter what it is, if it's going to be called a GT1, then it should enter the GT class races.

Autocar is used to put these sort of claims to sell some issues (I am a subscriber BTW ) but it's BS IMO, Porsche is not used to target these sort of records, just look at the 959 and the CGT, they weren't the fastest or most powerful of their generation (maybe the 959 when it was announced ... ) but they focus on technology and driving. I strongly doubt that there is something true in this article ...

Porsche may want to wipe the floor with the upcoming Ferrari F60.

^^ who decided that? I've never understood why that happened. the enzo came out a few years after the F50 and it gets called the f60 already? It's more like the F54.
when will porsche make a GT4? we've been through several GT3's already, so they could just skip and go straight to the GT5, if they didn't like the sound of "GT4"

By whom ? Jeremy Clarkson, fools and naps ?
It has probably been said thousand times but it seems it needs to be repeated again - Enzo is not the F60.

It is like 288 jumping to F40.....it is not necessary to bare a continous name. It is just the top of the line limited production super car produced by Ferrari.

It was the FX actually, Clarkson was the only jackass who incessently called it the F60.

only later did Ferrari say it was the FX; and later the Enzo

I also strongly doubt that there is anything true in that article. Porsche simply doesn´t need to build a car with that much power. Their sales are so well at the moment that such a car would be nonsense IMO.

Difference being, Clarkson continued to do so even after its release, and after Ferrari had very clearly called it the FX during development. Either way, ithe Enzo was the FX, not F60.
And back to the topic, does anyone recall how long the Veyron production run goes for? I'm thinking it will probably be over by 2009 (when this Porsche would supposedly go on sale), but I'm not 100%.
