for those of you who dont read/speak german, here comes my short summary: porsche is buying 20% of VW shares, to prevent any hostile take-overs by other groups who might not have the best interest of VW in mind. because porsche, the bundesland/state Niedersachsen and VW now have a majority share in VW, a hostile take-over is impossible because the VW group is porsche's most important development partner, they want to secure their own future in this way...

man porsche is insanely rich

i hope they wont throw away all their money on this though, because they're already said to be spending 1 billion on the panamera development...but hey wendelin wiedeking has brought porsche in the fantastic position it is in now, and i guess he can be trusted with Porsche...

i think its jsut VW, but it could be the group...sadly i dont know what Gesetz means

so we'll have to wait for our german speaking friends to enlighten us

In the gucom article's "Gesetz" means more like a "ratified settlement" subjected to the law of European Union.

In short, Porsche AG take a 20-percent stake in VW AG to ensure their long-term business ties (development and manufacture) and prevent any hostile takeover of VW AG group.

Even if VW AG is in good financial health, after VW has purchased others car brands, VW lost a lot of liquidity. That makes VW vulnerable toward private investors. This Porsche plan to take a 20-percent stake in VW will enable the Wolfsburg company to find this lost liquidity. Es ist auch für die Automobilindustrie in Deutschland sehr interessant !

As gucom underlined, the most astonishing it's to knowing the fact that Porsche was so rich !

ah the VW-gesetz is a law that prevents VW (and other companies??) from hostile take-overs. The law is going to be dropped soon, so porsche needed to make sure its most important partner wouldn't be taken over.
Money-wise, it's a pretty smart move...if they had put the money on savings account, they would've gotten about the same amount in interest as they're gonna get in divident (or whatever thats called in english) from VW, if the divident is gonna stay at the same low level that it is now (and it'll probably get higher, so they'll probably make even more money out of it). So i guess we can expect porsche to get even richer, and even more capable of making beautiful cars

In business terms, Porsche has definitely few opponents. They make so much money it's unbelievable... But to me, that's not all roses. Lately they've been focusing too much on the money... All Wiedeking wants is profit, profit and more profit. And that comes to an expense...

At its premiere on the circuit of Laguna Seca (USA) on 15th October, the Porsche sports prototype RS Spyder, will fly the corporate colours of the new main sponsor DHL Smart & Global Mail.
This was announced today by the global logistics provider and Porsche Cars North America.

DHL Smart & Global Mail – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Post World Net – will also partner Penske Motorsports as main sponsor for the entire 2006 racing season. The famed American team initially runs the Porsche in-house developed RS Spyder at the Laguna Seca race with drivers Lucas Luhr (Monaco) and Sascha Maassen (Belgium). For the 2006 season, Penske Motorsports, as Porsche’s exclusive customer and development partner, enters two RS Spyder racers for all rounds of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).

Commissioned by Porsche Cars North America, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, de-veloped the RS Spyder for racing customer contesting the American Le Mans Series. Thanks to an integrated light-weight concept, the sports prototype, powered by a new 3.4-litre V8 endurance racing engine delivering 480 horsepower, weighs in at exactly the stipulated minimum weight of 750 kilograms.

it looks ok, but i would've preferred it to be white...i cant wait to see how it performs, even though this first race is basically only a test...

Porsche RS Spyder beats LMP2 qualifying LMP2 lap record

in its first time out, the RS Spyder has taken pole position with an LMP2 lap record on Laguna Seca. their overall place is 5th, and their time of 1:15.606 is about 1.5sec slower than the overall pole by the Zytec LMP1, and about 5 seconds faster than the 2nd LMP2

...looks like porsche's got a winner on its hands

ok despite the wildly enthusiastic response to my previous message, im still gonna post this

Porsche/Penske won their 1st race at laguna seca, they were 5th overall. 1 lap behind the Zytec LMP1 winner, 8 laps ahead of the 2nd LMP2 car. its simply too fast for the competition 8)

whats amazing to me is that this car is potential for overall victory :shock:
Kudos for the return of the racing Porsche prototype!!!!!! this race was almost soley to show wat Porsche/penske wants to show... im looking forward to Le Mans, and next season!

Well... not that surprising to me. Porsche has x100 times more budget than Courage, Zytek, Dallara or whatever to develop a racecar, even if it's not 100% official from Porsche, only from Porsche America

expect a development season to work out the kinks; much like what they've done with virtually all of their race cars throughout history.... and next season, i definately think that this car will be able to take overall victory in some of the races. dont forget, that the teams running R8 chassis didnt soley develop the car, but just further it under thier own management.

after that, i suspect chassis will be sold to any of the teams of 2007 willing to pay for the Spyder, and replacement parts.

i really look forward to this car being modified by the various teams for a uber competitve field

This car was 100% porsche, Porsche NA requested it, but it was built by porsche motorsport in weissach.
and yes, with some luck i too think it might grab an overall win or two
