/\/\/\ You just beat me to it. Can only be good news. He has been downgraded from a serious but stable to a just stable condition, and has been moved out of the neurology ward to the high dependancy unit.

Doctors are reasonably optimistic he will make a good recovery. Once again they arent saying full, and are presumably covering their backs saying "reasonably"

Positive news on the whole however

^ Hope you're right about the doctors, IMO you are and Hamster recover FULL

@ Jabba, if hamster is doing better, you can change the header from "brain injury" to "car nut"

Guys, dont be so pessimistic. Brain injury can mean a lot of things. Many racing drivers (remember Wurz and so on) had brain injuries, even been hel in an induced coma (because of the swelling) and are 100% OK now.
Do you think he will be having another go in the Dragster when he recovers then ?
I would ...ž
And judgig from what I've heard from him, he would too ...

With that said, there is a reason the NHRA and such require special licenses. You don't get to just hop into one of these things and go for it. Doesn't matter how much experience you have with other cars, 300mph in a matter of seconds is no joke!
You mean you'd say no if someone offred you to drive it? I certainly wouldnt - and I wouldn+t just drive slowly either. I'd try to max it out if possible ...
I honestly think I would turn it down. I've done some things most people wouldn't, but hopping into a car capable of 300mph in mere seconds is not for rookies.
My friends father drag races, the first time my friend did it he was scared shitless. As was his father. Thats in a car capable of 9 Second passes. Imagine a car covering the same distance in 4. Proper dragsters aren't something you have a go in simply because you have the opportunity.
O yes they are. Bring me a 6 sec car tommorrow and I'll have a go ... I cant guarantee that I'll go as fast as it goes, but I'll go as fast as I can manage.
If I can do 175 mph on a country road the I think I'd manage 300 in a nicem straight track (or maybe I'd crash, but hey, how often do you get a chance to do that)?

Well hopefully someone with some sense wont let him, and they will use a professional next time, that is if there is a next time, which I sincerely doubt.

Yeah me too Jabba, and indeed if they will then put a goddamn prof driver in it, don't care if you dress him like the STIG as long as he knows what he's doing

That's quite a relief, he must be much better since JC has been joking with him. I'm sure Clarkson wouldn't have the humour if Hammond was in a very bad state.

Indeed, that's some great news that Hammond responded positively to that joke (which made me laugh ). Leave it to Clarkson to break up the seriousness in the air, which in my opinion could be very important to fully recovering from such an injury. A positive outlook goes a long way.

Update:

James May says he is convinced his fellow presenter Richard Hammond is "perfectly intact" after a conversation at his hospital bedside.
Mr May said it was not a long talk "but it was a conversation".

"I'm not a doctor but I am his mate and I believe that deep inside the Hammond I know is perfectly intact," he said.
Good news indeed.

So you prefer fakes?
And besides, what's the point of having car guys as hosts if they dont drive? Then any stupid chick with big boobs who knows shit about cars and driving can do it, and soeone else drives.
No, the point of these shows is that the presenters are the heropes, the drivers.
