The Evo is quicker around only one track. (And those 2 cars weren't even tested at the same time.) At the Hockenheim club circuit, the Evo VIII loses out to the 344-hp C5 Commemorative Edition by 1.3 seconds. Has it occurred to anyone that the Evo uses supersticky Yokohama Advan A046 tires? The Corvette has crappy Goodyears that allow you to drive 200 miles on a fully deflated tire before it peels off the rim. Not to mention the 47% shorter gearing of the Evo in the 1st 4 gears...
This is just the base Corvette. Funny how you guys want to compare it to a highly tuned track machine like the GT3. (Fastest published times for the Commemorative Edition Z06 at Gingerman Raceway matches those of the current GT3, BTW).
Regarding the Corvette locking up...its stability control and ABS system is set up to allow greater degrees of slippage than most, before intervention.
And no, an NSX is not as quick as a Modena. The Ferrari is generally 1/2 second quicker in the quarter mile, with a fastest of 12.3. No stock NSX has ever been that quick. It's also about 1.5 seconds quicker in the standing mile than the Honda. The old C5 Corvette is about dead even with the NSX (slightly quicker in the standing mile actually). This one with 400 hp should have been even faster. But then, all of these cars in that TG acceleration "test" weren't exactly piloted by the same driver now were they...

|
Im not sure that evo is cheaper.. We're not talking about your standard evo here.. and were talking top 10 fastest cars they tested.. i mean come on people.. it beat the lotus..
Maybe after import tax?

At last I actually got around to watching the piece. (had ISP issues for 5 days now)
Well - knowing how these cars behave - inside out - and being intimately in the know about GM quality (or lack there of) and service - I now know how all the "other" car enthusiasts feel when Jeremy and crew talk shit about the cars they test (or not test, as the case may be.. )
Listening to the commentary was like watching a Micheal Moore movie... sure the words being spoken were partly factual - but the sentences were strung together in such a way as to tell a story very different from the truth.
From the "plasticky" inside comments to the "bendy bumper" show-piece, to the "leaf-spring" false-hood and the "clunky shifter" fakery... it is clear that these guys are just in it for the show business.
Think of it as Jerry Springer for cars...
Now back to the actual driving - what a fucking crock of shit. When a Euro car gets all sideways they "coo" and "awe" and admire it's oversteering power delivery and explain it away as "being so powerful"... yet here they blame it on the cars "leaf springs".
Last time I heard, locking up the brakes is a DRIVER issue, not a car issue.
Remember all those stories about how bad the Vipers brakes were - when it was just people not knowing how to work them?
Perhaps the Stig went into the bend way quicker that he is normally used to...
But anyway - back to trashing the Circus crew... I laughed at their "drag" lineup... a hair-dresser could drive better than that...

well Hammond is a little bit of a biased Porsche guy and he is short with stuby little arms did you notice how far forward that seat was? you could fit a small child behind that seat, I'm sure that's why he had trouble with the clutch, American cars are built for larger people in all directions.
But yes the Stig seamed to have less trouble than in some cars I've seen.

I am actually not taking it seriously at all.
The sad truth is there are either "serious" car shows like Motor Trend TV - where they do boring. yet unbiased factual analysis of the car being presented - then there is the JC version.
Full of hyperbole and sensation - but no substance.
In short - entertainment TV... much like Survivor and Fear Factor..
The unfortunate part, is that many hundreds of thousands of viewers actually believe this tripe..
No one ever said this wasn't entertaining TV - but anyone who has ever read JC's columns knows he is just a trashy paperback novelist caught up in a Moto-Journalists body...
Now Tiff is another story - he actually has some skill and experience to back his words up... where as JC is all hype and no substance..

Ohh and you know how he drools over Brit mobils......................
Lastly it did look like a pile of shit around the track. Not sure what caused it. Might be the Stig.......
P.S No it didnt beat the GT 3. The GT 3 lapped it in wet.

I agree with you...somewhat.
Its good that JC isn't afraid to harshly criticize cars, which IMO crappy shows like Motor Trend TV are too worried about losing advertising dollars to do. The only problem is JC gets carried away sometimes, and isn't the most knowledgeable person in regards to cars...
A show like Motor Trend TV is biased, its obviously much less in the open, but they have certain cars they seem to favor, like say whoever is paying their bills at the moment. In addition, I find their reviews almost completely useless, wow, I really care that car A has 3 cup holders and car B has 4 cup holders...
So, basically...give me Top Gear over that worthless Motor Trend/Car & Driver/Autoweek crap any day of the week, even if it is (heavily) biased

There's no more Motor Trend TV, there's only Motorweek and Autoweek left on Speed Channel. Oh, and their infomercial like "Speed Channel Test Drive" (completely biased but some good track action).

But remember, Mr & Mrs Volvo don't - that's the kind of shit they go for... -- and that's who those shows are made for...

I agree with you guys that JC is to be taken with a grain of salt. he has little knowledge about the cars cant drive compared to tiff. All the vettes i have read about had fiberglass bodies, and most cars on the road today do have plastic all over it, but there are metal beta pannels behind most to back that up for safety.
And look at the bloody brit cars, a noble, look how ugly that piece of shit is, yet JC claims it as beautiful..... And he bagged out the F50 on terms of looks as well as the 360.....
