Interesting. I remember your comment about this earlier and was wondering which tuner you thought did the best job as far as chassis tuning? Also, I have heard good things about Ruf and believe that there is a strong relationship between Porsche and Ruf. Where do you think Ruf fits in currently and also historically. Ruf has a strong reputation in the US where as RS Tuning isn't as well known. Finally, what do you think of Ruf's aftermarket parts for example exhausts systems, wheels ect.

well, chassis tuning is another topic in comparison to the engine, it depends what you want, i´d definitely go for the factory suspension kit, very usefull on the track but also driveable in daily life...
but i can´t really say this or that package is ther best one...
lol, RS isn´t that well known even over here, when you´ll ask some ppl, they´ll name Gemballa, TechArt and Ruf but i think only 20% will rank RS inside the top 3....
you´re right Alois Ruf always had good ties to PAG, some say ( edit: many say ) Ruf is the best Porsche tuner by far, well, they´re really good, i mean every decent Porsche tuner simply has to be good because it´s hard and challenging to make a perfect car even significantly better, but i really found nothing what should be that special on a Ruf Porsche...
they´re all great, Ruf, Gemballa, TechArt, 9ff, RS.....
but as i said b4.....i´d go for a RS engine and that´s it....

it´ll be a great model range, believe me

I'm excited about the new 997! What an incredible time for the NS. This must be WR's time. I'm especially excited about a standard bodied car with the "clean" look without fixed spoilers that is tuned for track work like the 964 Carrera RS. I know that some like the fixed spoilers but I prefer the classic lines of the 911.
Active suspension looks interesting and is likely partly responsible for such a low NS time. It sounds like its would give you the performance on the track of the 964 RS without the punishing street ride off the track. But I wonder what the weight penalty for all this is? Maybe the wizards at Weisach worked their wonders like the did when introducing the 996 and we will see a 997 that is lighter than the current 996.
I love the new design especially the headlights. I don't think I like the headlight trim though. I have to admit I was fooled by the bumper covers on the spy photos and thought I would not like the changes. But I think that the new car is a close second behind the 993 in the looks department and it is only the smaller, compact, curvier design of the 993 that wins my number one vote. I'm also glad the clock is an option.
All in all Porsche looks like it is poised for greatness in the future.

Road and Track did a preview of the car in the June 2004 issue. To add some details:
- Cost: $176,000 (By comparison the GT2 costs about $190,000)
- HP: 395 Torque: 297
- 12 colors offered - the ones that were used in the IROC (International Race of Champions) racing series in 1973. Each color was used to represent a country - the blue is MExico Blue.
- the ducktail pays homage to the '73 Carrera RS
- Car weighs 2705 lb v/s 3043 lb for the regular GT3
- Weight loss primarily due to: carbon-fiber hood, carbon-fiber doors, forged Ruf wheels, Recaro racing seats with 6 point schroth harnesses.
- Other modifications: roll-cage, bumper with chin spoiler, Brembo 6piston calipers

I really like this "2.7RS style" spoiler on this 2004 RUF RGT RS.

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is extending its product range to include the 911 Turbo S. The new model will be available at Porsche dealers around the globe from August 2004, as a coupé and as a convertible. At 5,700 revolutions per minute, it has an output of 331 kW (450 PS). This is 30 PS more than the output of the 911 Turbo. The basic price is EUR 122,500 for the Turbo S Coupé or EUR 131,100 for the Turbo S Convertible. In Germany, the coupé will be available at a price of EUR 142,248 (including VAT and country-specific requirements). The convertible will cost EUR 152,224.
Thanks to the use of larger turbochargers and a further improved intercooler, as well as a revision of the engine electronics, the Porsche 911 Turbo S realises torque of a handsome 620 Newton metres, which is available between 3,500 and 4,500 revolutions. It reaches its maximum speed at 307 km/h. The Turbo S with manual transmission (coupé) sprints from zero to 200 km/h in 13.6 seconds. This is another 0.8 seconds faster than the 911 Turbo.
Another characteristic of the Turbo S is the standard Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). It sports punched and internally ventilated ceramic brake discs with a diameter of 350 millimetres at the front and back (911 Turbo: 330 millimetre steel brake discs with a diameter of 350 millimetres front and back) and six-piston monobloc fixed callipers at the front (911 Turbo: four-piston).
In addition to the Turbo S logo on the boot lid and on door mouldings and centre console, this vehicle can be identified by its 18-inch wheels in “GT silver metallic”. The hubcaps sport a coloured Porsche crest. The extended standard features include cruise control, a six CD changer system and the green tinted band at the top of the windscreen. For this new model the special colour, dark olive metallic, can be ordered at no extra charge.
When looking at the dashboard, the driver’s eye immediately notices not only the aluminium-coloured dial faces but also the “Turbo S” logo on the rev counter. If buyers decide in favour of natural leather, this material is specially embossed on the middle strips of the seats, the steering wheel rim (where it is handled), the shift lever and the hand brake lever.

i picked up the recent mag 'car and driver' and noticed an article relating to the porsche 911 gt3 rs.... and that its not slated for any american deliveries; but there are going to be Ruf gt3 RS's making thier way over while shedding 300 lbs on top of that (and a slight hp/tq gain)
was there not enough market for a substantial RS delivery to the US?

That's not the only thing that needs to shed 300lbs in the US
