The wheels of the car on the Dyno are very Ferrari-ish.

Maybe we have a case of Dino in Dyno.

Maseratis will be more GT cars..... the new coupé, that will be introduced in spring, will be more similar to AM DB9 (but with a V8 engine) even in the dimensions

Entry Level Ferrari = Maserati

It will stay this way, just as it was designed. If this "new Dino" is produced expect very limited production and an inflated price tag. Ferrari are too proud to build a Boxter/Cayman. If you think otherwise you are deluded. If Ferrari were in real financial trouble they would drop the Maserati line, not cheapen the Ferrari name. Sorry if I'm repeating anyone else's thoughts, just had to get mine out there.

Its gonna be around 130-150 grand.

Though the pics still don't show much I hope its a Maserati.

I posted this some time ago:

Ok so the insiders say that Ferrari is really producing the Dino mainly for two reasons. One so they can reduce the waiting list and secondly to use the remaining capacity of the Modena factory, that is capable of producing 15000 cars, but they only produce 6000 because of the not so great demand of Maseratis.

The engine will be a a 4.2 V8 derived from the Maserati, and it won't be too complex so they reduce costs. At the same time Maserati will get a 4.7 with 450 to up to 500 hp, and the F430 getting a 4.5 with 520 hp.

Also some say the "Dino" will be a 2 seater Maserati to compete with Porsche and that the bigger Maseratis will compete with Aston Martin.

(not sure if this has been posted, but it does offer some good info)
From Automobile Magazine:
2009 Ferrari Dino is Coming
We've confirmed a top-secret project for a new, entry-level Ferrari to slot below the F430. The car is ambitiously timed for a late 2008 launch (although suppliers expect it to be delayed until early 2009). Officially, company executives scoff at the notion of such a Ferrari, but what if the new Ferrari wasn't, strictly speaking, a Ferrari? Just as was the case with the original Dino (see sidebar), Ferrari's new entry-level model probably will not be adorned with a Ferrari badge.

The car that's set to become the new Dino originally was half of a two-car Maserati program that used a shortened Quattroporte platform. The first is a two-plus-two that debuts at Geneva and will replace the GranSport coupe later in 2007. (The next Maserati Spyder, however, won't arrive until 2010 and is based on new four-wheel-drive components borrowed from the next-generation Alfa Romeo 166 sedan.)

The second car in the program is a smaller, lighter two-seater. And despite the official denials, Ferrari is a logical home for it, particularly when you learn that both cars need to go into production if the $50 million investment is ever to be recovered and that the next F430 (due in 2009) will move up significantly in base price from today's $175,000 to more than $200,000. That makes room for a lower-priced model, and by going the Dino route, there's no danger of diluting the Ferrari brand image.

The Maserati connection would define the car's key ingredients. They include a front-mounted engine, a control-arm suspension with electronic damper control, Brembo brakes with optional carbon-ceramic discs, and a body structure that uses plenty of aluminum and carbon fiber. What powers the new Dino? A high-revving 4.0-liter V-8 rated at 430 hp is a realistic starting point--not bad considering the car's target weight of 3500 pounds.

Priced at about $170,000, this car will be positioned against the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, the Porsche 911 Turbo, and the Audi R8. Boasting a Ferrari-shared V-8, a rear transaxle (like that from the 599GTB), a retractable hard top with an optional glass roof panel, and a steering wheel complete with the manettino drive-mode selector, it has plenty of Ferrari DNA.

It also picks up interesting historical threads. Not only does it resurrect the Dino concept, but it would be the first front-engine, eight-cylinder Ferrari in a half-century. Two sports racers with that configuration--powered by tiny 75-hp, 1.5-liter units--were built in 1940, but they wore Auto Avio Costruzioni 815 badges. Why? Because Enzo Ferrari, who had left Alfa Romeo to found his own company, agreed on a four-year grace period before he would start putting his name on his firm's cars.

$170,000 for a new base model dog slow boring V8 non-Ferrari Ferrari or $160,000 for a lightly used fire breathing V12 Ferrari 575?

Uhm - hello? McFly? Any one home?

True, but they must think some people will buy it.

As long as it doesn't have the F badge, I'll be happy.

From Autoblog:

Along comes Infomotori to throw accelerant on the raging fire of Dino speculation. The return of the Dino has been rumored far and wide, and we'd all love to see a Ferrari that may be a little more obtainable for us plebians. Andrea Rosati has dreamed up a car that looks an awful lot like what we've already seen in the form of the 420 Dino. One welcome change from 99% of Ferrari pictures out there is Rosati's use of giallo instead of the ubiquitous rosso. Speculative minds churning feverishly, Infomotori goes on to imagine a 300hp V6 displacing 3.0 liters offering up performance on par with the Porsche Boxster.

True or not, the idea of an entry-level Ferrari never fails to excite. It's not the flat-out performance, but the entire package. Sumptuous old-world interiors, unabashed style (sometimes good, sometimes bad, always engaging), glorious sounds from the machinery -- these cars are not about shuttling you around from chore to chore. Ferraris are about the the goods under the skin. We have no doubt that the new Dino will be the bottom of the range should it ever emerge, but there will be nothing cheap or second-rate about it. Every marque needs to have an entry point, and a Dino would likely be in $100,000 territory. Still, it'd be cheaper than its stablemates - and there is no such thing as a cheap Ferrari. A "project car" Mondial will still run you 10 grand.

-- This doesn't do anything to confirm the development of the Dino but it's nice to see slightly better renderings than the previous ones. It's not good enough for me though

Autoblog:
New Ferrari Dino tipped to be at Frankfurt Auto Show
The on again off again entry-level Ferrari is back in the headlines, this time rumored to be making a showing at September's Frankfurt Auto Show, which is shaping up to be one of the hottest shows for sports car fans. German magazine AutoZeitung is betting that a new model to be called the Dino will be on display, a car designed to rival the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

The Dino will likely feature a 400-hp mid-mounted V8 engine fed with cold air via two large inlets on the rear fenders. Top speed should be in excess of 185 mph with the 0-62 mph taking roughly four seconds. Additional features would be an F1-style gearbox, carbon-fiber brakes and a lightweight composite body. Adding to the speculation, Ferrari could also reveal the upcoming F430 Challenge Stradale in Frankfurt, as hinted by its Chairman Luca di Montezemolo earlier in the year.

In response, arch rival Lamborghini may unveil its own entry-level model with a new Gallardo V8 that was spotted recently by spy photographers circling the Nurburgring, as well as a Murciélago Superleggera seen in recent spy shots. In all, there's reported to be up to 22 different sports cars at the Frankfurt show, so if you're a car nut you better start saving those euros and taking German classes.

22 different sports cars at the Frankfurt show!!! Should be a very exciting event! I actually doubt the Dino will make an appearance in that show. The F430 CS debut seems more likely.

Renderings of what a Dino migh tlook like by a graphic artist. Just after seeing that, it makes me wonder why they dont hire folks like this to design their cars, its absolutely gorgeous!

Can't wait for September

BTW, 400hp from a V8 is not much, even more when it's a Ferrari.
