Just drove the M5

"Brought my car in for the Vanos line recall- Got it back with the dealer's paperwork saying 4662 miles IN, 4663 miles OUT--- however, when I get into my car, the odometer says 4777..... So I go right back into the dealership and get the mechanic and manager. Both of them knew there was no getting around the fact that after the mechanic was finished and after I was told to pick the car up, someone got the keys and took my car for a 14 mile joy ride. God knows HOW they drove it, but lets not kid oursevles. I know they probably hammered my M5.

So I make the manager write down the actual mileage and told him that I demand to know who drove it unauthorized. Manager says they will get to the bottom of it and call me back.

Guys, any suggestion on how to handle it?

Anyone have a suggestion of what I now ask for from the dealer to compensate me?? btw, I'm an attorney and can hammer them back if I really care to. Just looking for compensation suggestions."

M5 E39 had vanos problems as well but they fixed it, they will fix this too. M3 E46 had blown up engines and this is not the case with M5 E60.

Hopefully he has better resukts than I had - I actually took pictures and was able to show the rubber bits on the fenderwells from the burnouts they did with my car while in for repairs... but the cost and length of the lawsuit would not have been worth the "new set of tyres" I would have got out of it

This should be a fun soap opera to watch hehehe

ok, well techs aren't the best at noting the mileage out. I"m prety bad about not changing the mileage on the ticket when i close it out.

Now, the training manual says it takes about 10 minutes of driving for the oil level sensor to read the long term dynamic. 14 miles sounds somewhat reasonable.

M3 E46 had blown up engines and this is not the case with M5 E60.

the M3's were blowing up because of the shitty con rod bearings.

I hadn't heard about the S62 Vanos issues ,but i do know they omitted the EGT sensors from the management system since they weren't doing what they were hoping they would.

By that logic, anything attatched to an engine constitutes an engine failure So by that count, how many engine failures and recalls has Audi had?

no the M5 doesn't need the Vanos to operate. If the Vanos malfunctions, it just get's jammed to a failsafe position. The engine can still run if the system fails.

It's an engine component yes, but in a sense, so is a coolant hose. If a coolant hose busts do you consider it an engine failure? no. I don't consider this to be an engine problem because the engine will not fail immediatley after the oil line begins to leak. It will fail after prolonged driving of course as it would if it were to be overheated. So i think we're just going to have to agree to disagree here

At least this is not as widepread as the S54 problem. This one has been nipped fairly early in production.

Brembo... i cant say ive seen anything but the specific graphs... but Audi's S, and RS from '95-2004 have worse engine/chassis relibability then both BMW and Mercedes... again, i cant elaborate... but this is based on TGW's and R1000's collected for the performance devisions.

on a side note... a simple problem with the winshield wiper could be concidered a TGW for the chassis... so its not always telling on what went wrong... things are sometimes goofily grouped

BMW launches some recalls that i'm not all that sure even should be recalls. Like putting an OBD sticker on the cover of the OBD socket :roll: Not going to complain though. It pays .3 hrs to apply a sticker
