... just a quick info for all those who´re planning to visit Geneva car show in march:

it´s now more or less official, the sucsessor of the 996, the 997 will be officially presented at the Paris car show this year, so we won´t see it in Geneva first  , but there´s a good chance that they´ll have one or two official pictures of it at Geneva...

Nurburgring:
The RS shows self-guidance behavior very small into highest frontiers, which strengthens the confidence in substantial measure. The steering works uncommonly accurately and reliably. The sport tires must be brought however carefully on temperature, in order to develop grip correctly. High passage retaining ability is the thanks. In the warm state of aggregation the GT3 RS shows a very neurtal to easily understeering handling.

Hockenheim:
Under course the 381 HP strong lightweight construction Porsche reveals tremendous traction also in turns. One takes gentle understeer in the curve exit in close corners gladly in purchase, if, as shown, in fast bends neutrality prevails. The load changes sensitivity by the sport tires one does not increase, in the opposite: the strong grip and of the rear axle has reassuring effect.

Acceleration and braking:
The 6-cylinder water-cooled boxer pushes like a berserker, the courses slide like a knife through the butter and the traction is enormous. The result shows, what causes less mass: 1.3 seconds projection/lead with the sprint on 200 km/h opposite its civil brother 911 GT3. The outstanding brake performances are reliably earnings/services of the sport tires. They are rather able to convert the effect of the high-performance brake assembly

Aerodynamic balance:
That the Cup racer shared, large tail wings causes a drift of nevertheless approximately 250 Newton, which corresponds to additional axle load of 25 kg with 200 kph. By the acceleration up-momentum, the lift at the front axle increases, but only slightly. The reason: by slots in the nose now over and not under the chassis lets the exhaust air of the central radiator create a small reconciliation. This constellation reduces the lift by approximately 30 Newton.

Maximum transverse acceleration:
The Porsche GT3 R-S is the first model from Zuffenhausen, which is delivered also in series now with sport tires. It follows the trend, which BMW released with the M3 CSL. The power spectrum of these tires is naturally substantially narrower than normal tires, on the other hand the grip characteristics have substantially improved with dryness. Here Pirelli P Zero Corsa are used in the size of 234/40 ZR 18 in front and 295/30 ZR 18 in the back

Slalom of 36 meters:
As well as no self-guidance behavior and one to a minimum sway inclination of the body reduced. The GT3 RS is saked with very spontaneous reactions and shows in the frontier clearly, what it stands and which not. Trickiness is thus not its thing. It does not reveal the unpleasant tendency to build up already at all, hardly under course. It remains reliable on it given line. With an average speed of 136 km/h the RS in this exercise reaches 9 of 10 points.

switching over lane 110 meters:
With 150 kph the target is fulfilled: Full score, although the BMW M3 CSL with an average speed of 157 kph went clearly into collecting main. The RS does not nevertheless only prove thereby an unusual agility, but also a high reliability at the drivingdynamic limit, that, not to plumb in order to say it clearly, on public roads any more is not. Because stands firmly: The more highly the frontier, the more narrowly is it also.

Verdict:
A permissionable sports car for the road, which even the safety regulations over fulfills. But one, which like hardly second looks for the intimate proximity to professional league and also shows it: adjustable stabilizers, adjustable values for trace and fall as well as sport tires, which stands race slicks characteristically more near than the normal street tyres. The banal travel from A to B succeeds with the GT3 TS completely properly, if it is drying and a tank filling does not exceed. On the race track however the vault, which brings the eyes of the sport driver to the shine, opens. Only 5 points distance to the ultimative optimum of 70 points, if that is not a big bang!

Thanks stanger for the scan and the translation. I wish I could read German because I can tell that I would really enjoy reading Sport Auto. I love the Supertest they perform especially the fact that Horst von Saurma test each of the cars. It adds a lot to the article that the same driver with racing experience drives each car.

When Sport Auto did the Supertest for the 2004 GT3 did they contrast the 2004 to the 1999 GT3? If so do you remember their opinion of the 2004 model to the 1999? I read in GT Purely Porsche that the 2004 was not as neutrally balanced as the 1999 model. However, I remember from a previous post you indicated the 2004 had less of an understeering characteristic that than the original 1999 GT3.

what a time....
well, i don´t want to say that too loud, but there´re quite some ppl at Porsche ( including myself !? ) who´re dissapointed by the 7:47...
i mean not really but a little bit...

it´s a bit hard to explain in engl. and actually i don´t have the time for that right now but i´ll try in short...
so, only 7sec faster than the GT3, sounds not that much, but all those who know something about the NS´ll know that +/- 5sec or so IS quite much on a track like this, another point is that we should keep in mind that a very good car like the GT3 is hard to improve, so some said that we shouldn´t expect too much from the RS, but we still believe that a 7:40 is easily within reach for the RS...
we´ve seen that now quite often that the Pirellis ( RS is equipped with P Zero Corsas ) are underlayed to the Michelins ( Pilot Sport N2 on GT3 and Pilot Sport Cup on CSL ) or think back what i´ve told you about the CGT tyre issue... HvS also mentioned that in his comment about the NS time...
but IMO the whole sport tyre issue distorted the whole Supertest a bit, there´re such huge differences in tyre performance nowadays that some ppl are thinking that a car is shit, but don´t know that´s all about the tyres...
and think of the exceptional suspension of the RS, i mentioned that in my test report and when i´ve the time i´ll try to go into greater detail about that suspension, so with the right adjustment of the suspension it should be significantly faster, SA tested with the std. and not a factory setup...
another point, and only insider know about this, the RS supertest should´ve been published already in the december issue of SA a reliable source told us that there were some problems during the test and HvS nearly lost the RS in a 200kmh corner, so again the credit goes to HvS that he saved the car... some said that there were some problems with the tyres and SA sent back the RS to Porsche and repeated the test some time later, so we don´t know if HvS pushed 100% like e.g. WR´d do...
so we´re all quite confident that the RS is minumum 5 to 7 sec faster, especially with Michelins but only 1 sec slower than a GT2 is a very good time indeed...

...yep lakatu you got the point what makes the Supertest so special
unfortunately they compared the mk2 GT3 with the 996C2... i´ve only told you about my experience with both cars ( less of an understeering characteristic ... )

Damn that is a big spoiler!!

Are they unpainted GT3 RS wheels? Can you have them as an 'option' on a standard GT3!! Or is it a 'Porsche car'

Looking forward to the vids!
Thanks again!

those 18"whells are std. on the Mk2 GT3, they´re the same as on the RS, the only difference, on the RS they´re either red or blue...
nope no factory car, just a little "toy" for the track of a private owner
