Depends what one defines as being fast... but the M6 is not that much faster then the M5. Just a tad, and even then, over long distances. It's still nearly two tons and dragstrip times are roughly the same as my much less power SLK's (i.e. about 12.7 seconds for the 1/4 mile with a trap speed of 112-114mph).

The Gallardo is definitely faster then my SLK, I know, since I've done a few sprints versus a friends Gallardo, and he could nudge away from me thanks to AWD and the extra power in a chassis roughly the same weight as mine.

I think it's "you" who's overstating the M6

But are you guys telling me there's a 10+ error in the speedometer? I find that hard to believe. I think the limiter from the factory doesn't come in at 155mph anymore, but a bit further. I was impressed with the diesel that goes past 260kph at 4100rpm and still had a bit more to give. This completelly stock.

OK I am going to email BMW now and tell them that they don't know how fast their car goes and to update their website with the correct speed.

So you're basing one days worth of airstrip driving as being enough proof that an M6 is quicker then a Gallardo then?

How come so many other media (even if it's carmags or forum discussion groups) have shown trap times for the Gallardo as being clearly faster then that of an M6? It's not because it's an M car that the M6 is "all that". Fast car for what it is, but I'm more likely to believe that the Gallardo was hampered by an incompetent driver, or poor conditions. We all know the hp markings on an engine are not the be it all indication of power, even there variations do abound, and an engine with just 1 or 2k miles on the clock has not reached full power contrary to something with much more then this.

For example, did the M6 have 20k miles on the clock? What about the Gallardo? What were the conditions of the tires on both cars? Who drove them, the same person each time? etc... etc...

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but there are more then one indication that it shouldn't have. You get my gist?

See a couple of posts above. I stated some media figures and you see M6 and Gallardo are close up to 200km/h. The red M6 belong to BMW sweden with very few miles on it. This car is being shown on various autoshows in Sweden. The Gallardo had a lot more miles than the M6.
There will always be races were M6 lose to a Gallardo and vice verse. This time M6 was faster than the Gallardo and you better try to get over it I promise you if you show me a M6 vs Gallardo video racing and the M6, lose, I wont whine. You simply win some and you lose some.
This is starting to look like those M vs AMG discussions. Its kinda boring and pointless.

here are some old videos:
M5 vs Gallardo
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...&q=m5board.com

M5 vs M6
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...668&q=M6+vs+M5

BTW our races was more than 402 meters, in fact they was about 1.5 kilometers

That's what I was getting at. Of course a lot of things come to play, but in general (if we are to believe what we're told), the Gallardo should have more consistent wins over an M6 then vice versa, but it wasn't necessarily the case this time.

You might have to, unless the margin of error in a tom tom Navigation system AND a snooper is similar (within 2-3mph) of a BMW M3 and M5 speedo... 8)

Done, although I wouldnt hold ya breath for them to update the official stock speed of the M6 on their website

Many of the german automakers are abandoning the "gentlemans" agreement. MB has decided to offer their cars with a possibility to remove the restrictor altogether, or move it to 280/300kph.

I've heard rumors the new M5 and M6, as well as some AMG models occasionally have the restrictor completely removed from the factory (nobody quite knows why). One guy with an SLK 32 AMG (this is a car from 2001) was able to go 280kph before the restrictor kicked in, and he bought the car stock from his dealer.

I wouldn't look too much in to it. In 99% of all cases, you'll never drive that fast unless you take the autoroute in Germany every day

Oh I didnt know that 100 mph was considered fast, and by "faster" I guess you mean a further 55 mph until the Gallardo will pass you.
You can get them derestricted, which lets them sail on to ~200mph
 If you are going to make a post and avoid making yourself look like an idiot, then please read the whole thread first
How does that make me look like an idiot? There are dealers that will do it upon delivery, which in my eyes is no less stock than getting a cupholder installed at the dealer.

It is kind of ackward to keep focussing on the 155mph limited topspeed mark when indeed you can get the speedlimiter removed by the factory. It's about as "modified" as ordering a factory Z51 Performance package on a Corvette. That's not fishy or anything.

Furthermore this whole limiting crap is BS anyway.

About M5/M6 vs. Gallardo - see this EVO test.
http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33660

M5 is not far behind, so I could imagine a M6 being faster than a Gallardo, but the BMW will need a better driver They seem about equal in terms of straightline speed, with a small edge for the Lambo.

Anyway, who cares? Different cars giving different sensations for different prices.
