Personally I would go down the hardtail route as for that money, you get more for your money.

Also, it is better for commuting!

I will have a fiddle and see what I can build up for 900 smackers

What about a nice Cannondale? With 900 GBP you should be able to get one

But well, I bought my last bike so many years ago... I always was in love with Cannondale and I'm not even sure it still exists LOL!

If it is a hard tail it needs to have a pretty decent chainset and wheels as standard, as i ride quite hard (when not commuting) and am a fairly hefty chap. I snapped my standard ones on my GT pedaling off of traficlights!!!!!!

lol, I will bear that in mind!

I was trying to build up a Santa Cruz CHAMELEON, but it is proving difficult. £365 for the frame, by the time decent forks/groupset are added, cost over 1k

There is an Orange:

So far, I would get this:
http://www.bromleybike.com/ishop/399/shopscr1439.html

i may be able to sort out a 10% discount at Bromley Bike, as I know the lads well, and they know my bike only too well lol

Surub that, get this!

I rode one last weekend, good bike out of the box.

Yes I do have a bullit, it is built up for DH with Shivers, Race Face cranks, Hope Brakes (being changed soon!) Mavic rims, Hope hubs, XT stuff. I will have some pics this weekend, so I will post....believe it or not, I don't have a digi cam, and I am having a mini legal battle with Jessops with regard to my digi video camera, so I have no means whatsoever of getting pics!

I doubt i'll see it being ridden around 'town' london's a fuckin big place!!
you never know, just last year I found two of my friends bikes (those expensive aluminum ones) in a nearby town (population around 50,000). But then again, its no London.

and again, sorry to hear about the bike and hopefully that insurance thing would work out if all else fails.

Right, rang the police rang me back to finish off report today, they were really helpfull, as were the uni secuity (other than stoping it being had in the 1st place!).
My mum rang insurance company, and luckily we put it on all eventuality cover, so i will get the amount it was insured for, minus our excess.
So all in all, it aint too bad, ive just gotta walk for the next 2 weeks, and then find a £950 bike over the easter!
Jon_s, that orange seems to fit the bill pretty well! U reccomend?

Jon_s i just had another read over ur links, i missed em last time. Cheers 4 the effort.
That marin does look good, but the wheels are XC are they not!? I dont know how strong disc wheels are now days, but i had mavic D521's on my old bike, and i'd say they were about perfect for me, i dont fancy forking out on a new rims just after a whole new bike!!?
I do like the look of that marin, and the Dukes look like a nice fork, u recon u would b able to get it down to £950?
