A prototype can look very different to the end product... I mean, look at the lights, they're up at the top of the door "hinge" areas. I think it's just one of those stress tests for different components on a bare bones test chassis. The radiators are probably there just to provide maximum cooling power so that at least the engine doesn't die while they're testing steering components and the like.

*shrug*

Yeah offcourse, but I thought it was a McLaren first
does that perhaps mean all the hard work and testing was performed by Chrysler group, and Mclaren are simply 'stealing' it?

^^^ Not really i'm only talking about the visual cues taken from the ME 4/12. I'm sure everything else will be developed by McLaren with mercedes funding.

Thats what I was saying. I guess Mercedes delivers the engine too, which is then tuned by McLaren..

^^ Exactly, the engine in the SLR is the same one that's in the SL55 but is tuned by McLaren. I think this one will use the same 6.3 V8 used in all mercedes cars but tuned by McLaren to make around 600BHP

I have never heard of McLaren doing engine development of any kind.

It's a collaboration between the Chrysler group and McLaren.
