thx for the pics st-anger. They're quite big... if you want I can only post the links. That 964 3.8RS is rare indeed, couldn't find much about it on the web.

...only 100 pieces from the 964 3.8RS came out of weissach and nowadays only a few a ready to drive...
i´d been lucky enough to drive one some years ago, and you´ll definitely need some luck, although there´re 100 pieces, the chance to see one for real is ultra rare...
btw, if you want to learn a bit more about that car it`d be my pleasure to provide you with the most important stuff...

ahhh, and sam, i´m not quite sure about your comment, but you know that RUF is a Porsche tuner don´t you , and the picture shows a 1997 RUF CTR2 based on a Porsche 993 Coupe...
btw the CTR2 is a stunning ride, 0-60 in 3.6sec, 520hp, top speed 220mph!!!
again if some of you want to know more about that Porsche, just ask...

Aha, well as you know I'm allways interested in car. Certainly cars like this one. But I don't want to keep you busy with this. Just one remark: it had a 3.8 litre engine, I could of course be mistaken but I can't remember any other Porsche with a 3.8 litre engine...

I have a question. Does anyone have the magazine or a translation of the article that is mentioned in this quote of a post from a different forum?

"During developing the CGT, Walther Rohrl drove 1000s of kms in an Enzo, which in his own words is "a little faster round the Nordschleife"
Said in an interview to Danish magazineBilmagasinet."

It seems to contradict what has been said in this thread and in CAR magazine, but I would like to at least see the source.

well i´ve some spare time because i´ve to prepare myself for our winter holiday so I won`t work for at least two weeks
so here´s what`s important to know about the 964 3.8 RS:
as any RS modell it was developed as a homologation modell for the 3.8 RSR for the GT series. the 3.8 RS had been adapted with the 911TT body shell with (wider) flared front and rear wheelarches the std. RS had the narrower standard body shell. for reducing weight
lightweight aluminium doors, aluminium luggage compartment lid, thin side-window glass and no sound deading material had been installed. inside the 3.8 RS there`s just a pair of leather lined Recaro buckets, three spoke steering wheel, harnesses, a full roll cage and a fire extinguisher, even no headlining.
at a standstill, the 3.8RS is an amazing display of performance: wider arches, cats-eye-clipping chin spoiler, a adjustable bi-plane rear spoiler that can be set to any one of six positions depending upon the amount of downforce desired, connected with the one-piece engine-compartment lid.
but as you´ve already pointed out, the main thing is that special power plant…
it`s based on the 3.6ltr 964RS engine but due to an increasement of the bore by 2.0mm to 102.0mm ( the stroke remaind at 76.4mm ) the displacement increased to 3746cc, which had been close enough to 3.8ltr. for the marketing dep…
power output increased from 260 to 300hp due to use of lightweight pistons and rocker arms, racing camshafts and 6 larger, individual throttle valves for each cylinder.
the diameter of the inlet valves were increased from 49.0mm to 51.5mm and the exhaust valves from 42.5mm to 43.5mm, and the ports were polished. a hotfilm air-mass sensor replaced the restrictive flap valve of the standard engine, while a free-flowing exhaust system with twin tailpipes significantly increased power output. compression ratio rose from 11.3:1 to 11.6:1, and a second oil-cooler was also fitted behind the left front bumper.
a five-speed transmission fitted with RS ratios with updated steel synchronising cones, and a limited-slip differential with 40% locking factor under load ( instead of the 20% of the normal RS ) has been installed too.
Dampers and spring rates were revised, and the front and rear anti-roll bars are both larger in diameter and adjustable. the 18” magnesium Cup-wheels were specially made for Porsche by Speedline in italy and are nine inches wide at the front and 11 inches at the rear, and significantly both are a full inch wider than those of the Turbo “S” of the same year. tyres are 235/40s at the front, and 285/35s at the rear.
unfortunately it`s too rare to push that car hard, it`s definitely a collector´s item and not a car for the weekends…
here`s a very good slogan for that car: unbeatable on the track, undriveable on the way to the track...

That's what they used to say about most of the 911 range some 20-30 years ago... or am I mistaken? Anyway, thx for the proffesional explanation. I'm quite impressed by the car. I think it looks good and this is not a quick upgrade or some sort, they've really put a lot of work into this car.

As you said, this would be a dream of a car to push hard on the track. Pitty it is that rare... but that's part of it's attraction of course.

Hobo, I red a different story in Autocar, I understood that Walter Rohrl say the CGT was faster than the Enzo although less powerful.
I can have made a translation error but I am sure at 99%. :fadein:

That is the impression I was under also, but I just wanted to know if anyone had any info on this danish magazine, and if the interview was just a translation of the quotes and bits of information taken from Rohrl that exist in other publications.

...and it contradicts whit that what i know for sure:
i´ve posted something on that topic on page 10 of “Porsche news” and WR did not run 1000s of kms in an Enzo, he just got it for a period of time, don`t know exactely but one or two days are likely, and it`s definitely NOT likely that the test crew was driving 1000s of kms, there`ve to be a misunderstanding somewhere, because no one of us here at the EZW knows about that things, and that WR should have said, that the Enzo is faster is simply wrong, he definitely said that the CGT is faster, not much but slightly…
but again, it`s a very hard guess and a bit of a useless discussion because when Ferrari comes up with a factory prepared Enzo with a setup prepared by an experienced driver it can definitely outrun a std. CGT, IMO…
but from what i know so far, i´m 100% sure that the CGT is faster on the NS, on the other hand it wouldn ´t surprise me if the Enzo is faster round hockenheim…
again, we´ve to wait and see…

That would finally be a fair comparison if you're talking about NS lap times as the deciding factor, because the Carrera GT is tested throughout it's development on the NS by a NS expert. The Enzo wasn't, so it's no surprise to me the CGT is faster around the NS.
