So in you professional opinion and from what you have heard what do you think an Enzo might do.
Say if Walter Rohrl put as much time into it as teh CGT.
|
a very, very good question...
believe me, when we are talking about the CGT at work, and there`re really some ppl around who nearly know everything about cars, we always talk about that topic as well but it`s such a hard guess...
we definitely know that the Enzo is a marvelous car, and really, really fast, BUT it`s nearly impossible to think of an exact lap time...
Ferrari won`t show up at the `Ring, i think it`s up to a private owner to lend his Enzo to a decent test crew, e.g. the guys from "Sport Auto" which is simply the best car mag available. as i said before, there has been a test drive of Porsche engineers around Leipzig test track, and also WR tested the Enzo, but both sources came to the conclusion that the CGT should be faster, IMO the Enzo should be slightely slower or equally fast than the CGT, but 7:40 (SA time by Horst v. Saurma ) with 92kg fuel, a co-driver on board at 4°C and damp track with TC on is unbelieveable fast, everybody who knows the NS´ll be impressed by that time, and under that conditions the Enzo won`t be a competitor, that`s for sure...
under perfect conditions i estimate a lap time of 7:22-7:25 for the CGT with std. ( not sport ) tyres, IMO a factory prepared Enzo can clock a +/- 7:30....
the 01/04 issue features the "SA supertest" of the 360CS, so we`ll see...

I've heard of a time between 7:15 and 7:22 managed by Benuzzi in the old ring, with road tyres (Bridgestone Potenza). Impressive! In the damp and wet the Carrera GT is faster for sure, the setup of the Enzo is extreme and the tyres are not able to warm un properly. The only downside, along with wet road handling is the paddle shifter, I prefere much more the CGT 6 speed manual tranny

what´s your source on that times, i´ve mailed some of my ppl and no one had any infos of a clocked NS time of the Enzo with Dario behind the wheel, and when you`re speaking of the "old ring" do you mean the 20,835km version???
so is your source reliable, because there`re so many rumours of so many "experts" around, some guys are saying the CGT already clocked a 7:20, which is simply NOT true...

A friend of mine told me it, he knows peolple working in Ferrari, but I'm not sure if those infos are true. If your sources told you that there aren't infos about Enzo's clocked times in the NS, I believe you more than any other!.

well thx for believing in me, but i`m also 99% sure, without asking the real experts, that it won`t be possible to clock a 7:15/7:22 in a street legal car without sport tyres, even it`s an Enzo ...
just to compare, a Porsche GTR3-MR clocked a 7:17 during a VLN race with sport tyres and that`s really freaking fast, everything under 7:30 with a street legal production car is exceptional...

Thanks a lot St-Anger.
Chingachgook do you think you could look into that source to see what is up? From all the info here I very much doubt those super times, but possibly it wasn't such a stock car?
Any info at all would be great.
Thanks

Now I'll try to find out if those infos are true, because I was surprised, 7:15, even taking all the possible risks, is incredible!
But now that I know that the supposed 7:20 of the CGT is false, I doubt even more about this Enzo time, because my frind told me: " The Enzo is faster, Benuzzi managed times between 7:15 and 7:22, depending on how much he was trying hard. Compare it to the 7:20 of hte CGT and...the Enzo is faster." MAybe it's onlly a war of times...times that aren't true at all.

i´m definitely sure that there´ll be some more test on the NS next year, i´ve heared about a factory prepared CGT to clock THE ultimate time on the NS with a street legal car, but this is only a rumour, even here at the EZW we don`t know something more about that...
another point, why i can´t really believe the 7:15 - 7:22, even at industry pool days, when the track is closed, you´ve to know the NS by heart, which means hundreds of laps every year, no one really knows the NS, no one, not even WR, and what i know, dario isn ´t that often on the NS, so these times are simply impossible for a "non NS pro" in a car that hit the ground in the "karussel" which means there are some problems with the suspension...
but nevertheless, it wouldn´t surprise me if the Enzo can clock a +/-7:30...

The Enzo hits the ground in the Karussel? oh that's bad!
Can't whait to know times on the NS, and I hope they'll make a video in Best Motoring Style, with cameras in order to make us see the dance between throttle, brake and clutch!

Does that mean the Enzo isn't as flat as it should be through the corner?
The suspension is too soft?

...maybe too soft, but we believe that they´d chosen the wrong setup, as i said before, lot`s of know how and experience is required for the NS...
but even with activated lift up on the front axle it touched the ground...
but again, hopefully it`s just because of the wrong setup...
