the earth VS the flying saucers remastered/colorized
the movie was made in the 50s so the FX will look dated, however it is still to this day a science fiction gem, the acting carried this movie thru instead of "michaelbayesque" explosions and impossible aerial shots, the sound FX however have been redone and they no longer are as cheesy as before, there is more realism to gun shots now, but if you are a square guy like my brother you can have the old black and white, mono/22khz original which is also in this disc
the colors, oh the colors, I have no idea how they did this, but it makes a huge difference, you can distinguish all sorts of things now, according to the outtakes, the film was done in color, but the release was printed on black and white to save cash, part of the original dailies were burned in a fire so they were re edited and spliced with parts from the B/W and then by the magic of computers, color was added to the parts needing it, this is one great classic sci fi film and s now a lot more enjoyable than before, a must have for any film purist as this movie received quite a few nods in every regard at its release, the one thing is that it is over 60yrs old so the FX will look dated by today standards, however, the comical nature of seeing wobbling UFOs parading around DC and crashing into Lincoln's crotch at the monument is something that never gets old, (LOL)
up on cue next: 2001 a space oddysey (blu-ray)

Quantum of Solace: 8/10
I wasn't expecting much of the movie given the fact that most of the reviews I've read have been pretty scathing, and that a lot of my good friends had seen it and thought little of it. Quantum was a pleasant surprise for me though, the acting was pretty good, the action was excellent, I rather liked the DBS-chase and while there wasn't a whole hell of a lot of plot, it still held up reasonably well. That being said, Casino Royale was better overall, and for the next Bond movie, it'd help if Q-division had a bit more to do with the movie, and I really miss the original music...

I watched Death Race last night with some mates. We wanted to see a violent movie and that was the best we came up with. It is a film about a former race car driver (played by Jason Statham), who is framed for the murder of his wife by an enterprising prison chief (Joan Allen) so he can participate in her Death Races, streamed to a global audience from her prison. Most of the main characters end up dying in the film and there is just wanton, unnecessary and sometimes quite random violence interspersed with the killings. My only major gripe is that the cars seem to go really quickly and handle perfectly even with heavy armour and machine guns attached. One of the racers drives a Dodge Ram which seems to be able to perfectly keep up with the sports cars the others drive. Unrealistic, perhaps, but hardly a fatal flaw. 8/10

LOL!! this is kevin smith's classic stuff, it is hillarious, and deep at the same time, it is a fun movie, no need for oscar winning or other crap, just watch it and have fun, the unrated version is the best though

Quantumn of Solace
what an incredible action movie, i loved every bit about the action in this movie... but alas it was a terrible bond movie. it felt more like a Bourne spinoff rather than bond... also the plot was really uninteresting and felt like a random side bonus... i didn't really get it all, maybe i have to watch it again.
and some critics were complaining that he didn't bone the "Bond-girl" well he did bang that red haired chick, so meh get over it.

Now that a lot of you have seen it, I can write about plot spoilers. The red haired chick was his first "conquest" since he fell in love and lost. I suspect future movies will have more "casual sex" as he will not be restricted to married women and he will not worry about falling in love or having children again.

as I said before, the one thing I disliked about quantum of solace (which is based on a real short story by Ian Flemming) was the fact that this is not the Bond we are used to, this Bond is rough, flawed, which is fine, but what they are missing is the gadgets, sure he had the cellphone to end all cellphones, this cell could take explosions, water, getting shot at, sand and it still worked... son of a bitch I want that cellphone, but nothing else, not even a lockpick, the car is now just that, the car and even though is absolutely nice, during that chase scene a little bit of smoke or an oil slick would have been kinda cool
I did feel sorry about "Fields" such a cutie, why is it that no one wants to bang that other girl? not even mark wahlberg wanted that poontang in max payne, does she stink? WTF?

I miss Fields. I miss Vesper. Everyone who Bond has slept with since the reboot has died! (including the other woman from Casino Royale too)

I don't know. I do like watching Roger Moore Bond films, but I would never say those were good movies. They were too silly. Remember the Casio fax watch in Spy Who Loved Me? Or the submersible Lotus, for that matter?
I think it's time for Q to come back though. Q in Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace would've been a distraction. Especially since Bond wasn't even at MI6 at any point in those movies. But since the next movie will, presumably, have M and Bond flushing out rest of "Quantum", I can see Q outfitting Bond with crazy scifi, yet somehow plausible gadgets for his missions. I did hope though, during Quantum of Solace, that someone would break those crazy MI6 projection glass walls by accident, so that they'd have to call Q up to where M was.

Everyone has those computer projection glass walls now. Even middle level govt employees in Las Vegas have them (CSI). Does that shite even exist outside of TV and the Movies.
Maybe they are trying to keep their movies from not being dated. All it takes is a big arse cell phone and you point and laugh now. Remember the hot cell phones in the Matrix.
