What i think makes i better is the fact that in ten years, technology has evolved, even on the edge. It`s in general a better more versatile vehicle kinda (I don't like the way this sounded but it`s parallel to what i feel). The macca will remain a wonder in history like the old shelby cobra, the miura, blah. Obviously it`s now like the top edge of historycal, but so will be the Veyron if it ever go in prodution and after a decade of production.

Benchmark luxury cars would have to be:

Higher Class: Mercedes S Class (i would have to give that one to them)

Mid Range: BMW 5 Series

Lower CLass: BMW 3 Series

The 5 Series and 3 Series completely cream their competitors and they both have a very impressive acolades.

97% of the worlds governments own Mercedes S Classes, that goes to show somthing ay?

Supercar Benchmark would defintely be the Mclaren F1.

Another benchmark would be the BMW M3 simply because of its technology, its track ability, its everyday useability and of course its performance.
Its value is quite astonishing too, compare it to a 911 Carrera for price and value!

Please enumerate them, in the latino americas, the only "government" owning merx are the druglords... thats more than the 3%, then theres Mongolia, Nepal, etc. I bet even the Nippon have a Lexus (was gonna say Toyota but it suddenly sounded too cheap) As for the Ms... in what world you guys live in, oh right, the 20% Global elite with broadband access where bimmers are an evryday encounter. Here i see a bimmer a month, maybe a week... ok 1 of them but christ, not both.

Well that was what was stated in a Top Gear episode (the one that they had the S600, Mabach and A8 in).

I also personaly prefer the 7 Series because it handles so much better, but the majority of the people prefer S classes unfortunately....

no my bad, the koenigseg does not beat the mclaren f1, there is a mag scan somewhere, and the koenig just dosnt do it. rear angine a flaw? lol what are you jc's representative? it might be a "flaw" to some eyes but not on the track... or off the line. as for the cayenne, i should have said city suv's, not like off road monsters like the h1. as for the gt40 class isnt everything and anyways theres nothing that competes with it fairly so i guess that it wins in its category. the rx-8 beats its upper class? can you reword that plz?

^^^ What do you do for a living?! I test designs, like in mechanical engineering designs so don't tell me it`s my eyes that are wrong but more german hard heads. city suv supremo is a biodiesel Brabus G400(or g6.1 for the polluting ignorants), the G-wagen class has been there for 40 years, that freaking porsche hasn't proven nothing in 4 months that a VW V-10TDI could somewhat kinda closely match (<- same platform) and overtake cuz is can take biodiesel (4% total polluant). The gt40 histiry is a bit like reverse kinetics, instead of behing a road car that goes to the track, it`s one that comes from it... with a freaking pick-up engine!!! i think Mosler are too but then they are not made with the same quality patrons.... a base RX-8 (3,029lbs, U$25K) outhandles and wins on the track a S2000 (2835lbs, U$35K), now you gonna tell me a 4 seater coupe is in the same category than a 2 seater roadster?! You can have a friend along in the RX-8 and you`d still beat the S2000 + yad save 10K... Now for the Koegshiznit (still no dis intended), it is not yet done right ok but it is not cuz it "doesn't do it" that it isn't better, how about you gather all about the macca (not the gtr), I do all about the Ks or we stop it here?!

Without a doubt, the McLaren F1 is the ultimate benchmark among ALL cars.

The Koenigsegg may be faster, or newer; but we are still comparing it to the McLaren F1 aren't we? How many times has a car stayed on top for ten years, in not only performance, but overall? I think the simple fact that every new supercar worth it's stuff is compared to the McLaren F1 says something for it being the benchmark among supercars. Other supercars have come and gone, but the F1 has stayed on top, even through attacks by some of the world's best auto makers, see F50, EB110, etc; but none have managed to take it's title (IMO).

As you can see I am one of the McLaren F1 crazies so maybe don't take this opinion personally.

In 1964 there was a GTO but it was under the Tempest name and in 1969 the GTO became the official name for the car

cir $

$20K = Subaru WRX
$30K = Subaru WRX STI (US Spec or type RA spec C) / EVO VIII (GDB or JDM)
$50K = BMW M3
$100K = Porsche GT3 / Turbo
$150K = Ferrari 360 / Ford GT
$500K = Pagani Zonda S
$1000K = McLaren F1

These do not represent strictly the fastest cars you can buy for the money, rather they are the best, the most fun, the highest quality etc.

And if anyone disagrees with any of these there must be something so wrong with them only a heavy and strict drug redgiment can help.

^^^ Some1 has not done his homework and is the 1 that need to get his facts updated or he`ll get medicated.

$20K = Srt-4
$30K = EVO VIII
$50K = BMW M3
$100K = Porsche 911 turbo (Because it`s AWD, that rear engine flaw must be pretty fun in the snow.)
$150K = Ford GT40
$250K = Gallardo
$500K = Koenigsegg 8)
$1000000 = Bugatti Veyron 16/4

Koenigsegg in Guinness Book of World Records

Koenigsegg has received a Guinness Record for the most powerful production car in the world. Koenigsegg is replacing the Mclaren F1 for this record!

Christian v. Koenigsegg said he his happy that Guinness has recognized the CC and that he will strive for the official top speed record as well.

2003-10-11
EVO, November, 2003

The Koenigsegg CC recived 5 out of 5 stars in EVO.

A seamless, masterful montage of aquiline aqueous forms, it's a shape more akin to creature than car.

It's such a hypnotic procedure I can't help but open and close the door repeatedly, mesmerised by the precision and originality.

It's possible to get exactly the right driving position, thanks to the rake-and-reach-adjustable steering wheel, which moves together with the neat instrument pod.

There is a delightful, consistent weight to the steering that instantly connects you to the chassi and the road, while the damping displays a rare combination of resistance to roll and suppleness.

The CC8S is extremely drivable.
This is one addictive car.
The response is pulverising.
The way it piles on speed is truly surreal.

With wide eyes stealing a glance at the digital speed readout the pace with which we've exploded from 85 to 110 mph is almost inconceivable. More shocking still, slotting fourth gear unleashes another firestorm of acceleration. This is without doubt the most astonishingly fast car I have ever driven.

The Koenigsegg tacked into the first beautifully at about 70mph, steering full of feel and info, and the rear followed in precisely, settling the car into a power-on drive for the second turn. It felt wonderfully, effortlessly natural; poise in spades, composure transparent and vividly communicated. In that instant it stepped up to the top level of supercar dynamics.

Five stars out of five possible.

Autocar September 23rd, 2003

-It is beautifully finished.
-Credit to the Koenigsegg for matching a feat achieved only by the Mclaren in a road test before now: a genuine 200 mph.
-Superb pedal weighting and feel.
-Surprisingly good boot space.
-This is one supercar you could contemplate driving for long distances.
-The Koenigsegg is admirably refined for a car capable of well over 200 mph.
-The engine is quiet unless you floor the throttle, and wind noise is only obvious once you are well into three figure speeds.
-The gearbox is a delight to use with a short, precise action.
-Very accurate speedo, handy when the car's this fast.

2003-10-06
Top Gear, October 6th, 2003

The Koenigsegg CC is the fastest car we've ever tested from 0-150mph!

-Weighing a mere 1.1 tonnes, and packing 655bhp, the Koenigsegg CC boasts a power-to-weight ratio superior even to the McLaren F1.

I was impressed by the koenisegg and zonda tests on top gear also. very impressed.

The enzo and porsche CGT did not impress me with their heavy curb weight and boxster headlights.

The ford GT did impress me, partially BECAUSE of the pickup truck engine. it makes me laff hysterically to know that ford can so easily outrun a modena 360. and ford did it before in the late '60s with the 7.0 liter MKIV. btw, I thought I saw a 7.0 liter Ford V10 in ford can, imagine a van engine destroying a ferrari, hahaha.
